I've been thinking of purchasing a 2nd gen Ipod Touch however, I have searched the internet to confirm how the touch would connect to the internet and this is where I would have a slight problem.

From what I can tell the Ipod Touch does not support PPPoE dial-up connections. Now as you know in good ol' SA a number of us will have multiple accounts i.e. local and international accounts. This normally requires the use of PPPoE dialup connections unless you want to constantly change the PPPoE settings in your router.

So does anyone know if support for PPPoE connections might be added by apple or if there is some way to get connected other than popping the account user name and password in the router?

There's nothing to indicate that Apple might add support for this. Why not just use one of your accounts on the router and allow you ipod to connect through the wifi and use pppoe on all of your other devices as necessary?

Well because my router (Billion 7300g) is in Pure Bridge mode. In this mode you can no longer place login details in the router and thus have to use PPPoE dialup connections.

Change your router, or the settings for it to be on permanently.
You dont use bandwidth if it's on and nothing is connected.

There is no setting for half-bridge mode from what I can see in the router settings.

Go to configuration --> WAN --> ISP --> EDIT --> and then click on PPPoE relay on the bottom of the page. This will enable "half-bridge".

Yeah Snormossel I just read that post. However, if I follow those instructions I do not have anything that says PPPoE relay in the edit menu.

Do you have the B7300G or B7300G RA?

What is the F/W version?

Model Name BiPAC 7300GA
Software Version 1.09-B007-b_sso_billion
Bootrom Version 1.06

I was just thinking must the router be set to PPPoE Routed mode for that option to show up as at the moment it is set to RFC 1483 Bridged?

I see there is also an option to set the router to RFC 1483 Routed mode?

The router must be on PPPoE and not in bridge mode. And then it should be under the ISP option.

Thanks all for the responses especially Snormossel. :D

Seems to be working :)

Yeah enabled PPPoE relay seemed to work okay for a couple of hours then the network kind of crashed ie had to reboot router as lost internet connection and couldn't even get into the router webpage. Will look further into it when I have more time. Might need new firmware or something.
