Get iTunes

ok i am busy downloading it now is this the only way to copy stuff to this thingy.

You install iTunes....

Then you drag and drop your music to your Itunes folder.
Sync with iPod.

Done :)

ya i see that. it wants to take me to the store. so i can copy my stuff on the pc to the ipod and i dont have to do anything with the itunes store.

Can also use Winamp but there's worse software than iTunes. Just annoying how it wants you to download Quicktime and Safari as well
Safari is optional, quicktime is a pain and must be installed!
I once tried to uninstall it... that ****ed it all up and I had to install itunes all over again. I enjoy using itunes, not the fastest but its my music player of choice.

so i have this itunes thing on my screen showing my music on my pc how do i get it to the ipod to do a test run?

Plug in your ipod and it should automatically update.
So long as you have video's in your library those should be transferred automatically as well.

huh? so it copies everything to the ipod automatically? ok i have no idea what i am doing but anyway trial and error, sorry i am asking all the questions.

It should so long as the "Update iPod automatically" or something like that option is enabled when you click on your ipod on the left hand menu.

Simply, itunes imports all media on your pc into the itunes library, plug in your ipod, itunes transfers all your music and video's (They must be in your library) to your ipod.

it's Apple, its that easy.

Your iPod will be detected, u just choose what playlists etc u want copied.

Or...
Ask one of your kids.

ha ha ok guys my mp4 took months and that was easy, my baby is sitting here waiting for a miracle so i am doing my best.

In Windows you can also use MediaMonkey, which is arguably the best media player available (for Windows that is). In Linux, we use Amarok which beats iTunes at its own game.

Basically:

Drag and drop the folder which has all your music to "Music" under Library. Under Library, there should also be "Movies, TV Shows, Podcasts, Radio"

Your music should show up on screen.

Now plug in your iPod, say yes to all those "we are going to copy ur music blah blah"

"Syncing Complete"

Now listen to your music

nothing like what you guys have explained has come up.

do i have to sign up and open an account, the ipod sync is not availabe for me on the itunes site.
