IPv4 addresses have run dry

A few hours ago, the Internet Assigned Numbers Authority (IANA) allocated the last 2 free batches of IPv4 addresses to APNIC, regional Internet registry of the Asia Pacific.

So it's gonna be interesting.

"Hi, I need a block of IP addresses"
"Sorry, they're all taken"
"But I need them now!"
.... lather, rinse, repeat...

Uhm .. don't tell anyone but I can sell you a few. They're slighty used & comes with no warranty but for you I have a special price!

So... how long until Telkom gets rid of IPC and implements something that supports IPv6?

Ouch! I didn't know Telkom IPC can't handle IPv6.
That's going to be nasty.
Mind you at the rate the Internet user base is growing in SA it will be 10 years before the blocks of IPs that have been handed out, run out.

2012 here we come, Telecoms its gonna crush. Our local operators are not nearly ready to provide fully fledged IPv6 networking.

I think a few million IP addresses became available from Egypt.
