Iraq war officially a Crusade

I don't have any problem with this. The Arab world have been calling the US the "Great Satan" for many years now. They made it a religious war long before the US did.

If the hat fits....

Well the Crusades never ended really, it may have started out purely as a religious crusade but each crusade turned out to be more of a looting and profiteering crusade with Christian conversion on the side and once they were bored with the Middle East they went into Africa, Asia, East Asia and later America converting the locals as they went along... just that it became known as colonization not a crusade. The end of the Ottoman Empire and new colonizing of the Middle East topped off with creation of Israel just completed this circle.

so no problem then. Superior culture and technology supersedes the dark ages? :D A better life for all. At least... if that is your skewed view of history. :D

Another storm in a tea cup. Rather sad they're having to clutch at straws all the time

Christianity is inferior, the Romans and Greeks were far more advanced than Christian Europe before the renaissance.

Ja, the evil Christians should have left the poor middle easterners alone to conquer, loot and pillage each other. Although the Mongols, Tatars, Moghuls and Ottomans where all way better at it than a few pathetic, plague ridden Europeans anyway.

The only thing that saved Europe from Islamic crusades was the fact that Europe was considered the a$$ end of the world by the rest of the world.

I have heard that, up until Saladin, Islam was far more civilised than the cruel and brutish Christianity. Within the context of the times (of course).

Scopes with Jesus verses, translated Bibles distributed in Afghanistan by some soldiers, Bush and Rumsfeld using Bible quotes for their Iraq war room briefings, Bush telling Chirac Iraq is a fight between Gog and Magog...
See these are just coincidences lol, there is no Crusade.

True.

Crusade, eh? I just love it when loonies make these loopy statements. More and more the rest of the world sees just what mugus these nincompoops really are.

There was a time when one could prescribe a dose of foreign travel as a cure for ignorance and prejudice. Sadly that's no longer true - modernity has enabled them to take their bubbles with them, and so they never escape. Fieldy, like his ABC mentor, is trapped for life, I fear - and that's a more immediate concern than arcane inscriptions on optical gear.

The context of the times being towers of skulls, and destroying entire cities and murdering their entire populations including woman and infants.

But if you're willing to over look that sort of thing :D and compare it to the horrors of disease, starvation and endless warfare in Europe at the time, the
Middle East and Central Asia under Islamic rule far surpassed Christian Europe as far as technology, literature, art, architecture, etc. well into the 15th century.

Europe in the middle ages was the Africa of the known world. Barely worth conquering, although the Mongols came damn close and would have conquered all the way to the Atlantic with the greatest of ease had it not been for the timely death of the Great Khan as they stood at the gates of Europe.

So, as much as the people like to tout this Crusades thing as if we should all feel guilty for centuries of western aggression towards the east, the Crusades are really a blip on the radar of the Middle Eastern history of conquests and massacres.

The Crusaders took a couple of so-so cities every now and then, could barely hold onto them for long and eventually got kicked back into the med or slaughtered.

Wow that is ignorant. Ofcourse they were far more technologically advanced than the dark age Christians but what do you expect when the rampaging hordes destroy everything that you have. You do know that Rome was sacked and that caused the Dark Ages - not belief in a higher power.

Places that did not fall into scientific idiocy (that were Christian at the time) include Constantinople and Alexandria...

Damn son, go read a book before you spout off the biggest loaf of tripe imaginable...

The context of the times being towers of skulls, and destroying entire cities and murdering their entire populations including woman and infants.

If that was the ‘context of the times’ the crusaders did the same. It sounds barbaric now, but rape and pillage was very much a ‘context of the times’ phenomenon. If you went back far enough in your family history, chances are that one (or more) of your forebears was the product of a rape. I think you are going OTT however.

I’m am not overlooking anything. It’s a given, historical fact.

...the Crusades are really a blip on the radar of the Middle Eastern history of conquests and massacres.

Which the ‘civilised’ West did as well.

The Crusaders took a couple of so-so cities every now and then, could barely hold onto them for long and eventually got kicked back into the med or slaughtered.

Serve them right. They started the fight, couldn’t finish it and got their butts kicked. The slaughter (on both sides) was done in the name of a God who has the same credibility as the Easter Bunny. How far we have progressed!

The best part is the almighty, technologically advanced Rome was sacked in one night by a handfull of guys wearing bear skins and war paint as armour. I suppose one could draw parallells to 911, a tiny group of guys stealthing right to the heart of an almighty kingdom.

There are no parallels. It didn't happen in one night - it was a gradual process that lead to the obliteration of the ancient Roman culture.

9/11 was a blip on the radar. The Sack of Rome would be like destroying every computer in America. Buddy, you should really open a book or two.
