Is an SSD worth it?

once you have a SSD you will kick yourself for not getting one sooner

+1000!

For the last year I have been using my notebook while working on-site at one of my clients (contract developer). This morning they gave me a desktop to use as it is getting hectic lugging an 18.4" notebook around. My notebook has a Vertix 3 in it, and I am dying using this desktop with a standard 7200rpm HDD.
Think I may just buy myself that Agility 3 mentioned above.

This is the truth, before I got mine I really did not understand the hype about SSD, if mine ever fails it will be replaced immediately.

ok well if you like my post then gimme some darn rep!!! ;)

I dont really care about the system to be honest.. but that little grey block below my name is annoying me!!!

:D

I own a 60GB OCZ Vertex2 and 60GB is still enough but a bit tight. I will never go back to a normal HDD

My Corsair 120GB Force GT just arrived today.. WHOOP WHOOP!
Was gonna go for a WD Carviar Black 1TB as secondary, but I think I might just get a Hybrid.., they don't seem too bad!

So what's the most cost effective way to get yourself ssd'd?

Size?

Should i be concerned with ssd speed, or will even the most basic drive blow my mind?

Guys, I'm caving with all this SSD talk.

/orders from wootware

Aww they only getting stock either today or tomorrow. I got excited when I selected overnight Fedex thinking it will be here tomorrow :(.

The real question, and slightly off topic, is what program is best for cloning my current primary drive and moving it to the SSD?

I did a simple windows system image (In Windows 7 Backup), then restored it to my SSD. I was concerned with partition aligning, but the restore did it perfectly so no issue.

I tried this but it failed due to the existing boot drive (500GB) being larger than the SSD (120GB). I couldn't shrink the partitiion because there was some unmovable files, so I just did a fresh install because I was too lazy (and too impatient :D ) to search for another solution.

lol - ye - that can be a problem.
When I got my Vertex 2 beginning of last year I had the same problem and just did a fresh install (also lazy :)). When the drive failed about 1.5 months back I put back my HDD while waiting for the replacement Vertex 3 and restored a backup (I backup every Sun) to the HDD. I made sure I kept it under 100GB so when the replacement came I could simply backup/restore again.

Installed my OCZ agility 3 last night. Its amazing!! Seriously don't know why I didn't do this sooner.

Okay so I'm probably going to do a fresh install just so that I can install programs to my current SATA 6 HDD, and install Windows + Steam + Origin on the SSD.

Maybe, just maybe, mine will come today...

WTF? is it worth it? It's a billion gajillion kapillion times faster than any spinnable hard drive can get. In fact, your motherboard is more likely to be the new bottleneck if you're not careful.

Yep, mine is now, the motherboard can only handle 55MB/s copy from one folder to another
Anycase, I always hibernated my pc due to long boot time, now I don't even notice boot time
Great investment!!
