I understand that one gets a 56K dialup account wit adsl. Is this also capped when adsl is?

What???

No, as for as I know you don't get a 56k account with ADSL.

And if you only have a 56k account (No ADSL) then it's not capped

Uh, I actually don't think you do get a 56K account - first I've ever heard of it anyway, and no ISPs I know of hand out 56K details when they give you the ADSL ones.

put it this way, i don't have ADSL but my 56k dailup sometimes just stops responding. and this normally follows bouts of p2p software utilization that facilitates a lot of uploading. could just be my piece of sh@t external 56k, but u never know....

Cloud: That similar sort of thing used to happen to me when I was on 56k- I could never figure out why. Even a PC and modem restart never used to solve things, I'd just have to wait half an hour or so.

I dont know about other ISP's, but with a Telkom ADSL account you can use your same ADSL username and password to also access the internet via a normal 56k dial-up modem. Dont know what use it has if one looks at the costs of telephone calls.

Yep, You also get a dailup account with M-Web, but NOT all ISPs give one with their ADSL. Just ask them about it when you apply for ADSL.

Again, with modem there are also allot of settings that you can change to make your connection better, like MTU Size and more. The modem self also have strings that can help. There's also software than can help you with these settings. Search around a bit, as I'm not going to try and remember my modem days...

You can use your TelkomSA username and password to dial-up with analogue modem.

Traffic counts toward the cap, but the connection is not capped.

Once you are capped you cant use the 56k account to get minimal int bandwidth at 56k I take it?

That would be too much to expect?

Yep you can.

Whatever traffic you generate on your 56k dialup counts towards your ADSL 3 gig cap. But once you cross that threshold, and if you choose to use 56k dialup thereafter, the dialup account is uncapped i.e. it behaves like any other 56k dialup account the SAIX network.

Does that include being able to access int bandwidth with the 56k modem at 56k speeds, not just local bandwidth?

Thats the really crucial issue [;)]

I do this when approaching the cap, in an attempt to prolong the ADSL facility as long as possible before falling over the cliff - I use two separate accounts, though, not a single Telkrap one...
