I got dstv compact installed last week because:
a) i like saving money
b) i can watch most of the english and south african football with compact

But now im wondering if I should just pay the extra R250 and get all the channels. I started getting interested in the other channels after multichoice conveniently "Forgot" to block me from receiving the premium channels for two days!!

What do you guys and gals think?is it worth the extra bucks?

R550 pm for DSTV PVR.

I have no idea what channels are missing - I have always had the premium subscription - what dont you get?

Dont get m-net, movie channels, rugby,f1 and cricket sport channels. To name but a few.

not worth it eh, we've got compact and its more than enough, unless of course you want rugby coverage or something like that, if i want movies i'll download them or rent them at the videoshop.

In that case, I couldnt live without it - I love my sport, the movies I can watch on my terms though. I have DSTV for the Discovery type channels and sport, and the odd Mnet series, and of course the PVR functionality...

It is easier to ask what Do you get. Looked at that a while ago and apart from saving some money came to conclusion that I can then just as well drop it completely. End result, i still have the premium package and now with the added HD capability I do not think it is worth the effort IMHO.

Thus either R555.00 or nothing.

I don't think it is worth it for non-sports fans. We just get it for two months out of the year... July and December... and in those two months we watch everything they have to offer for the year. The rest of the year we just drop it down to the SABC and Etv Channels.

Scrolling through all the channels... it is very hard to find something interesting to watch.

And even my favourite channels have very little... Discovery has very little Science stuff, History channel has very little history, National Geographic has very little geography or wildlife.

Kids cartoon channels have absolute crap.

no science fiction anywhere... or very very little.

I don't think it is worth R550.

The premium channels should be R250

Compact should be R100.

Free to air channels should be... well ... free.

If DSTV dropped their prices by more than half... they would sign up more than twice the number of customers they currently have.

It is only greed that prevents them from doing so.

With the introduction of competition I am sure they have already considered this option. And if it were going to secure revenues whilst increasing their subscriber base they would have done it.

qft

I won't ever fork R450+ for DSTV/TV. If they made it R200, I would do it.

Well you can get dstv for R200 telkomuseless. Think i got 40 channels.

its a tough decision though. I dont have any "Conections" with movies and not a fan of renting movies so i think it may be worth the extra investment.

I have the Premium DSTV. It's nice and all, but obviously there are a lot of channels I don't watch or want. The only stuff I actually ever watch is Sky and Supersport. The rest of the house maybe Mnet, History, Discovery, Animal_Pl and so on.

I only have MNET (Analog) & I pay about R250 a month. I mostly watch the series, and maybe 1 or 2 movies a month. I have a tivo so all my series get recorded.

For another R200 I can get DSTV but I don't have time to watch anything else, I still have lots of old series thats recorded and I haven't yet watched it so DSTV will be a waste of money for me, I also don't watch sports. The should make a package with just the MNET channels (MNET, Series, Action, MM1 etc).

I pay R260 a month for M-Net. I get all the premium series, the rugby, cricket and the newest movies. Which is practically all I need.

What I do miss is Boston Legal (only on Series Channel), Formula One and SuperSport's Olympic Coverage. History Channel would have been nice, but at least there's Wikipedia :-)

But the only prob is very limited (the channels). But I rather spend R500 + on other stuff

Edit:
When I lived @ home with my parents who had DSTV it was cool. But there were so many repeats, and when you wanted to watch something it was 1)too late in the evenings,2) never on. I know PVR can solve it, but R500 pm is too much IMHO.
