Is it worth getting a BB?

FYI - It has been brought to my attention that one cannot 'upsize' data on a CellC Straight TopUp contract any longer, meaning it cannot be added as a recurring service and data bundles need to be loaded manually using separately purchased airtime.

Excellent choice WRT the Galaxy S2, still got mine as a 2ndary phone, and it will be getting another major update to Android4.1 next month, so still a great smartphone.

Why not get it on a TopUp315 and buy data with some of that airtime? Got my S2 and S3 on TopUp500, so i buy data with some of the airtime on top of the 150mb or so they give me, worksout well, i never pay over R500pm.

With the exception of the books, movies and music only available in the US and a couple other countries and apps that are specifically blocked by the developers(to only release to a specific country) we have access to the full international catalogue.
When buying any apps the price can be showing as eg. R15, then when you verify your purchase(just another click to make sure you didn't accidentally buy it) the price will show as eg. £1. I have seen things in US$, GB£, €, Yen and some ?swedish? currency as well

Depends what exactly you want. If you enjoy paying the inflated prices of 3G then go with an Android and Iphone. If you use alot of apps etc, then go with an Iphone or Android. If you want to use your phone as a phone and have the ability to check your email and do some internet surfing with unlimited internet, then Blackberry is the way to go. I have had all 3 types of OS and also Windows phone, and I still always go back to blackberry.

I dont use alot of apps and at the same time, I have alot better things to do than play on my phone all day. The cost of some of the Android and Iphone phones are ridiculous. You may as well by a new laptop for the same price.

If you do get a blackberry, get one that is 3G enabled. I am happy with my Blackberry Curve 9320, and I find it sufficient enough for my needs.

+1

Got a 9320 and its great. Been on Android before and that was superb too. But having nearly all my family & friends on BB, it makes it even better keeping in touch.

As a phone for email, chat, social like FB and Twitter the 9320 is excellent. And cheap.

Reading complaints on BB's social network pages and seeing the long queues at BB Buddies ad-hoc service kiosks speaks for itself :erm:

BB's are not that cheap if you compare it to real smartphones.

If you've got friends and family with BB's then get a BB, its better than WhatsApp. And if you use your internet on your phone then the R59pm is a blessing.
Old thread, but I'd to reply to you on this comment :) WhatsApp is streets ahead of BBM. The difference is that WhatsApp on BB is inferior to BBM. On every other platform it's better.

Also on BIS, R59 pm for "unlimited" interwebs may sound great, but don't forget that the experience often sucks. It's entirely possible to get an Android or iPhone with 250-300MB per month, still have data left over, and enjoy a better internet experience.

Try 30 members per group on bbm and see if whatsapp stands a chance, ask the bbm users.
I did mention that the 8520 is old now but for many people the 8520 is the entry into bbm culture, quite often a used 8520...

Not really into large groups. Getting spammed with messages every few minutes isn't my idea of fun, so I can't comment there.

Yeah it's old now, it's an entry point to the BBM "culture", but it's also a POS. The sooner people keep up with the times (and that doesn't mean owning the most expensive phone), the sooner we progress. Create the demand needed to keep up with the rest of the world instead of flogging the dead horse that is RIM and staying in the stone age. Just IMO of course :)

Which may well be true, but even when you're talking single percentages of market share, they still have a fighting chance.

Just out of interest, with that R59 uncapped, how much data do you guys do per month with it?

See we approach this differently. I see it as R59 unlimited browsing. Its not an 'uncapped' product. Its not meant to be. Its on device browsing. Not tether and rape the data. Its the view that the flat rate entitles you to an uncapped service that has crippled other user's experience. Crappy bis started at vodacom and now Mtn has reworked their t&c's as well as a result of the view viewing bis as uncapped.

with browsing only, im stting on 250Mb this month. DO my downloading on ADSL, browsing only on phone.

It's not spam if you subscribe to it, and where I come from, friend's don't spam friends ;)
