Is it worth upgrading

So it does have micro stutter issues though?

Doesn't sound good to me.

Every SLI/crossfire setup will have issues, its part of the deal when you go multi GPU. Its less noticeable on high end cards, but then your performance gains (percent wise) are usually a bit less as well. Triple configs magially eradicate stutter somehow though... Plus, I'd wager most people wont even notice the stutter at all.

Do not get the 6870s in crossfire. They have huge micro stuttering issues.
There's nothing wrong with your current cpu. It will give you the exact fps in gaming than a 2600k would. All you can do is stuck a Gtx 580 in there or a 6970. That's all

I have 6870's in crossfire, and I have virtually no micro stuttering issues. The only game I have seen it was in Metro 2033, but that game was very badly optimized and a major system hog, and even then it was virtually non-existant.

Never seen it in any other game

Worst... advice... ever...

Um... no they dont. I personally know someone who says it has minor stutter issues.

get your facts straight buddy before costing someone to loose their money

You can google 6870 micro stuttering as well. Youll end up with a huge amount of results. At tomshardware we got people complaining bout the issue every day.
You want more proof

That's just a few. There hundreds of them

metro is very demanding on the gpu. A badly optimized game is one like GTA Iv or Black ops which is a crappy console port. Those are cpu hogs. Not metro.

Who cares about a 6870 anyways! If he wants an upgrade he'd have to go bigger!
I still maintain SLI/xFire are second choice to a single GPU. It's not worth the hassle.

Anyways. SSD still gets my vote, or a sexy screen.

But its very demanding on the gpu because its terribly optimised. There hasn't even been a single patch for it to fix any of its issues. Trust me, that game is broken. Do a google search, you will find tons of results confirming this.

Yes, because everyone without micro stutter is going to make threads to tell people about it! You have a very whack sense of statistics. And then you plain old ignore another forumite who has the exact setup in question because it does not align with your views. Bit narrow minded if you ask me.

But as always, I do recommend, aim for the single GPU setup first, and only then consider dual GPUs

I was thinking about upgrading my X58/i7 950 for P67 or Z68/i7 2600K - anyone know when the Ivy will be coming out so I can hold on for those instead..

Yes its worth the upgrade.

I rate you upgrade. If your budget can strech for i7 Sandy Bridge then get one.

AMD is the last option for an upgrade (only get if literally all the Intel Chips run out)

Just... NO.

Moving on: Your rig at the moment is fine. Don't do an SSD upgrade, it is a waste of R1k+ for some faster loading times. You don't seem to do things that will really benefit from it other than load times.

I would recommend saving up and when you realise that you can't play games as nicely as you wanted to then have a look at getting a newer GPU, but until then I wouldn't touch that rig.

Talk about overkill for games... anyway, LGA2011 is out this month sometime.

dude how can you say this? what complete garbage. an SSD is one of the most significant upgrades overall improving the user experience.

its not something you can explain to someone or put in a benchmark they need to experience it before they will believe... And you wont ever have your OS on a spinner ever again... ever.

but hey, dont take my word for it

We have to admit that this is a blatant and perhaps provocative call to enthusiasts who haven't yet touched solid-state storage: don't deny yourself the advantages of an SSD the next time you upgrade your PC. Although the benefits are hard to quantify in some of the benchmarks we run (the System Builder Marathon is a perfect example, and if you haven't yet entered to win this quarter's trio of systems, make sure you do), an SSD offers so many obvious advantages, even to average users, that this call to action seems justified.

take theirs

Sorry, didn't mean for it to come through like that, but the OP stated that he is on a budget, and for gaming there would be a bigger leap in performance in putting more money towards a better GPU than getting a weaker GPU plus an SSD.

If you have the budget I would never say don't get one.

All I meant by my comment was that for a budget of R6k and a potential future upgrade it makes more sense to get a better GPU and CPU than an SSD.

ok cool

no worries dude. Im just a bit of a SSD fanboi :o

ppl often flame them (expensive) with no knowledge or experience with them

fanbois... :p

No, really.. If you have the cash, get it, but I always recommend that if you have a gaming PC it's best to get a better GPU and CPU and then look at an SSD. (The 'futureproof' idea..)

another gtx460 won't hurt and a nice SSD, as the guys are suggesting. :)

Edit: BTW, don't go smaller than 120GB on SSD. No use in spending R1k just to get windows to boot faster. ;)

Edit 2: Only saw now that the mobo doesn't support SLI. :o

SSD makes EVERYTHING faster. Not just windows booting.

Is it really worth it ? the longevity of these drives is all thats keeping me back ... almost like a hamsters life :P

never had any issues with samsung drives, still got my 80 gig ide in perfect condition ^^,
