Is Lasik worth it?

Yeah, have thought about this myself, I have one quite bad eye which would be nice to be similar in strength to my good eye. My benefit is that my good eye covers for my bad eye so I don't need glasses for driving.

Yeah, if you can use contacts, that might work as well. I tried a trial of contacts but unfortunately it did not go well. I am just too nervous to touch my eye.

Unfortunately I am non-functional without glasses 24/7.

I think if I was in that situation I would go for it to, potentially a huge life improvement.

You do, however, smell a bit of "burn" though

And yes, this surgery is done while you are awake ( hence the clamps)

problem for me has always been the fear of it, been wearing glasses ever since I was a Kid around 7 yrs old,
and you only get 1 pair of eyes your entire life, that's it, no swapping in robot eyes or better lenses or anything, if you fsxk them up, your blind as a bat.

been wearing glasses for a while, had the eye specialist test, that was extremely difficult for me, even with the dilation eye drops,
also when I tried contacts, was even more difficult for me to put them on and take them off, am just hyper sensitive to anything near my eyes.

and a bit worried TBH with it, for every 1 I see better now, theres 10 I see worse now stories out there.
there's no Do overs, once they flip that cornea flap over, you get what you get, best they can make it.

same here, recently got my script updated even, see okay long range, but close range is a bit worse now, especially reading off a PC screen.

It doesn't really help asking just for a quote. There are various different procedures as well as technologies. The one might have quoted you on the cheapest procedure and the other on a different one. Its a couple of thousand just for the tests to see which one is right for you though.

Also if you are old already you might be able to go for cataract lens replacements which medical aid does cover.

My eyes were good until around 12 years old. Not sure if gaming in the dark messed up my eyes but it could also just be bad luck and genetics as my Dad also has quite bad eyesight.

same here, although I was undisciplined with my Gaming when I was a kid, used to have a gigantic 24' CRT screen and I used to game on that with practically no supervision, kept way to close to it and fsxked up my eyes for a long time.
 
Did mine in 2019 for R20000. Def worth it. Chose to do it because my new lenses were going to cost more than the surgery. Pretty sure it will be quite a bit more these days.

You can also finance it partially at some places. Just make sure its a decent interest rate and they don't increase the cost.

I paid R2,400 for both eyes in 2003 :ROFL:

I've been wearing varifocals for few years now though as vision is pretty blurry up to about 3m. Over 3m is perfect. Actually been thinking about getting it done again though.

My far distance is also pretty fine. But I've had to resort to reading glasses the last year

Not sure how Visiomed works these days, but EVERYTHING was covered under my original price. I had to have 2 surgeries due to complications with dozens of follow up appointments in between. Everything was covered in my original fee.

That's just old age. Your eyes have less ability to focus typically starts in your early 40s.

How much did it cost you altogether? Right now, leaning towards SandtonEyeClinic. I phoned and they quoted R29-R35k.

R25k I think, it was a couple years ago so cant quite recall.

What I recommend is reading the existing thread 1st, there is some good info in there.
