Is load shedding back?

No it isn't back, there's technical problems on the network that they are not capable of fixing because of lack of skills it would seem.

Well there seems to be a technical problem in the norwood area this morning cause we without power. Anyone else affected? Is it a technical fault or the return of load shedding? Perhaps on account of the cold weather...

City Power says it’s too early to determine whether two substations in Johannesburg tripped because of increased demand on supply due to cold weather.

Electricity was cut off a short while ago in Edenvale, Kensington, Bruma, Parktown north, Rosebank, Hyde Park and surrounding areas.

It comes after several weeks of constant power outages in and around the city.

They trip and they don't know why.... absolutely friggen fantastic

Maybe the breakers need to be replaced as they are so old and worn-out like the one here at my work. Since replacement the problem disappeared.

We used to come in to work and found it had tripped and had to get City Power out WHEN EVERYTHING WAS SWITCHED OFF AND WE WERE PULLING MAYBE 300 WATTS from the mains, for outside lighting. An 800A breaker trips in the night after our boss makes us unplug everything at night when we go home.

Morons!!!

Power went off in Kempton park around 10am this morning as is still down. Hope we not going to have a repeat of that 10 day stint when parts of the east rand were without power....

Apparently there's a problem with the switchgear @ Kelvin substation. I don't have any contacts in that area so I cannot confirm for you but that's the word I have at the moment.

Norwood area and surrounds been without power since 6am. Any one have any idea what's up this morning?

No idea, but where I live there is a section without power also. At first it only affected one traffic light but this morning I see there's more traffic lights out.

I suspect the cold snap led to a spike in power demand, putting strain on the plants and causing trips.

Hah... and here we are waiting for our genny to be connected...

more than a month. I have sent out a warning email, as I've got a gut feeling...

We shall see what happens...

If you want, we can assist.

PM me if you require any assistance :)

Yip, speak to Generator Man, I personally vouch for him. He and his crew are the most jacked outfit I've met so far.

Actually from 6:20AM this morning till 11AM.

That sucks. I really like having power, it's selfish to say it, but it truly sucks when it goes out.

Main reason being, our house is surrounded by large tree's, so I can't even read a book because it's too dark and I don't want to waste the battery on the lantern :p

When I arrived at the office this morning, I was quite surprised that our backup generator was not working as the whole building was pitch dark, all the Cisco telephones were offline, no power, no lights, no network......0 productivity between 8-11 for lots of people although we can still work on our laptops for a while.

Humans have become so reliant on electricity that it's amazing. Between the ages of 12 and 15 I lived in a house in the bush that had no electricity, no generator, we lived with candle lights, paraffin stove, gas cooking and a firewood donkey to provide warm water, guess what, I turned out just fine :D.

That said, modern life in unbearable without electricity, thats why I always tell my clients that even though load shedding is gone, and everyone naively believes that electricity is here to stay, it's still worth it to invest in power back up, irrespective of the method that you choose to go for. There are no guarantees that any given area won't see long lasting blackouts in the future.

Midrand has been out since 18:00 tonite, can anyone confirm?

I stay in Randjesfontein, Midrand.

The power was off from 12am(night) on monday night, I was busy watching the broadcast of the olympics. It was off yesterday afternoon until 6:45am this morning.

Really, really annoys me, getting up in the dark is hard enough as it is...no coffee, not to mention that I didn't manage to have my daily cleansing hot water based shower.........

fawktards....

Here's hoping there is power tonight.
