Is pc falling behind

it IS about the games but it also is how easily you can play them, how easily you can invite friends into them, how easily you can get it to work, etc.

thus far the X360 wins hands down in the true plug & play environment of gaming... no patches, firewalls, hackers, cheaters or online issues.

its a bit difficult to see the light if you sit in front of your PC all the time... ;)

LOL nasty...I can see the light just fine in front of my pc oh console slave....you make some valid points...just :D

hehehe... i am still eager to repay some FIFA favours when you come visit uncle. ;)

If you look at PC prices over the last 10 years you will see that they have been dropping steadily, about 12 years ago my dad paid R15000 for a 486 with no GFX card.

About 2 months ago I bought a
19"LCD
3.8GHZ dual core
7600 GT and the rest of the system

for just over R5000, yes the lates GFX cards are R4000 but you don't need such an expensive card to play the latest games.

I have 4 PC's at my hose all and I keep them all upgraded for gaming with my brothers, they all have 7600 GT's and I would never change them for a console.

then whats the point of not been able to play the game at full spec.

Me and my m8s always used to compare errrrr video card size and who had the best graphix.

I haven't played a game yet that I can't play in full spec with my system.

Spot on ubb.

It's one thing being able to say you can play a game on a midrange PC, but what's the point if you have to run it at 640x480, on lowest detail?

I upgrade around ever 2 years, let me give you an example I recently purchased Dark Messiah and Mark of Chaos, and both games play smoothly in highest resolution and graphics settings.

so lets wrap this up now

i was a PC gamer for many years,im glad i dont have to upgrade every 12 months or so,now when i purchase a game for my lovely new green machine i know that i can run the game without any worry of system specs.

Unfortunately i cant agree with the fact that you wait 2 years for next upgrade, games like stalker, crysis and UT07 comming out for the PC will need alot of people upgrade there boards and vid cards to directX10 capabalities and higher.

take into context alot of average people cannot afford these costs.

oooo, this time of year I love unwrapping things :D

But also consider that for many they already have the baseline PC, and as a time value money whatchamacallit, forking out R1500-1800 a year for a decent video card and R300 a month for games may work out better than R3500 every 5 years and R500 a month for games.

especially if they're single, a hardcore gamer and like the look of a monitor tan ;)

Very well put, im sure the high cost of Xbox Games adds up.
Also when people work out PC prices they alwasy include the monitor, but they never add the price of the TV into the console price.
Also how is the Xbox for multiplayer gaming? can you link Xbox to Xbox? can you attatch 2 screens? Can you use a mouse and keyboard yet? how well does it play online?

Actually XBox Live! (Xbox online) is friggin awesome, it's its killer feature . . .

So much so that MS will be emulating it for the PC with Live! Anywhere coming some time in the future.

A killer feature and friggin awesome doesn't really tell me much about it? why is it so great?
And you didn't answer any of my questions...

I'm not a Live! evangelist so 'd recommend checking out the Xbox site and local 360 site for more hands on, but basically:

1. Yes the 360 has a very good online service
2. Yes you can play Peer to peer, exactly like a PC LAN, all consoles have an ethernet port, and you can get a WiFi adapter
3. Each console supports one screen (With VGA cable you can also use a PC monitor), but can play split screen, game dependant(Eg 2 on 2 on two consoles)
4. What makes Live great is consistent experience - you have a single friend list across all your games.
5. 360 netcode is thoroughly tested and very efficient.
6. The 360 does not support keyboard and mouse as primary imput methods, there are third party components that can do this.
7. Xbox Live offers downloadable content such as game demo's, trailers and recently added in the States is full Hi-Def TV & movie downloads
8. Xbox Live arcade offers "Mini-game" downloads - games limited to 50Mb is size but not lacking in quality, such as Geometry Wars, Small Arms, Bejewelled and many classic arcade games like Pac Man, Defender, Mortal combat etc, with the added ability to play these games online.

Does that help?

What's wrong with people? I mean WTF? :(
Excuse me, you did this when the PSX came out, then you said the same when PS2 came out, now you're back at it again. In all that time the PC stayed and it'll remain so.

1. Games are developed on a PC not on another console. If the game is already on the PC it doesn't hurt the developer to release it.

2. Em you GOW punters cannot be serious? I can't believe you're punting a PC engine on a console as the best thing the console can produce. I'm sure you can see the stupidity of that idea. When you were all like OMG UE3 looks great! On what platform was that? CLUE = IT WAS GeForce6 LAUNCH in APRIL 2004, when XBOX360 didn't exist!
Now you turn around and credit a game using the engine on the console as a triumph for XBOX360. WTF? :o

3. GOW is looking great because it's the only game that's using a next gen engine that's out. Every other game is still using legacy engines. This has nothing to do with XBOX power at all, stop selling it as a demonstration of what the XBOX can do. It isn't and never will be.
Unreal3 will work on a 6800 from 2004 and believe that it'll look better than GOW by some distance too. Let alone UT2K7 and whatever SplinterCell is going to be based on the UE3 engine (forgive Double Agent as that's utter crap)

4. Both the PS3's RSX and the XBOX XENOS are derivatives of Computer GFX cards. in the form of the GeForce7 for the RSX (only with 28 fragment shaders for RSX where one quad is used for redundancy and only 8 render outputs instead of 16 because of the 480/576/720 and 1080i render targets)
And R5XX/C1 for the XBOX (Unified system but with 48 single issue ALU's + EDRAM. DX9+ capable but not DX10 at all)

5. The PC has given the consoles the graphics power they have, but in both cases the basic framework is of GPU's available to PC users since 2004 as far as functionality and API features go.

6. The advantage of the console has nothing to do with hardware power, it's in the accessibility and titles available. The PC is not as sociable, not as easy to access and is a cost as far as tech support etc... All of these have nothing to do with console power. In a closed box system you will always be behind an open box system such as a PC, deal with it as it won't change.

7. MS has arguably spent more money on DX10 development than it has on XBOX360 and DX10 is only for PC. Why would they do that is PC gaming was dead? NVIDIA have been developing a chip for 5 years at almost half a billion dollars to produce the GF8, ATI has been in development of their DX10 part for a similarly long time also with a record breaking budget. Would they do this is the PC was dead? No, they wouldn't. If PC gaming goes under, they potentially go under, if they go under, where does that leave the consoles?

7. Console punters should avoid a high res debate with PC users. How many of you have high def displays even 720 capable? Sure we'll all eventually have, but what's the best res you can do on the consoles 1080 on the vertical with no AA. Please 1280x1024 on PC with 2XAA already looks better. Moving on to 1600x1200 with 4XAA simply puts the console into last year as far as visual accuracy goes. I've seen GOW play on a BenQ 37" HD set and the staircase party that it is (massive improvement over SDTV but still) it's okay. A 7800GT could do that with 2XAA at 1280x1024 and get a better result (if HDRA+AA were possible on GF7)

8. I'm not pro anything, I love consoles and always have. My next purchase is PGR3 and I'll get PS3 only for GT5 and Tekken. Lets not confuse the facts with preference.

BTW, none of us have seen Crysis DX10 footage all we've seen is DX9 stuff and same goes for UE3 powered games like GOW. That's all DX9 not 10.
If you wanna see DX10 stuff look at MS Flight Simulator X using DX10 reference rasterizer, then come back and say GOW is the best thing ever, it isn't.

You'll need to calm down and stop spreading messages of doom.
