Is Rain really this bad?

When I had rain, I bought a Huawei B222 and mounted it outside. Speeds were good most of the time.

Rain is good for the rivers. Why are you saying its bad. 4K streams no problem on middle tier 5G. Sometimes it needs a reset, after that all good againScreenshot_20221122_211953.jpg

Best look at the ISP rankings that gets published every now and then - RAIN always neer the bottom - should be a good indication that they are really this BAD.

With all the internet tech and ISP's I have used over the years (dailup, ADSL, neotel, fixed-LTE, rain(5g), fiber) - I can say without a doubt that RAIN has provided me with the MOST issues, WORST support, and LEAST value for money of the lot.

If it works for you great, if it does not, stop throwing good money at a bad cause, and just move on.

Wireless will never >= fiber.
So if fiber is available - don't bother looking at rain - go fiber.

Currently load shedding at the site, but connected to a tower that isn't. Manually switch PCI values to connect to the preferred tower.

What are PCI values, and how do I determine which are good, bad, better values ?
Every tower has it's own unique PCI value (contact Rain to get the PCI values of the towers you interested in). You can manually configure some routers to connect to that tower based on the PCI value...

Advanced>System>System settings>Developer options>Band selection>PCI ------>> Save>Go to Home>restart...

Just taken delivery of a ZTE MC888 router, will check out when I get it home.

Thanks!

So in my case, PCI 285 connects me to a tower in Aston Manor (0.78km away) and an area load shed under block 14.

When Aston Manor is load shedding (block 14), I connect to a tower in Glen Marais, PCI 637, 0.61km away and load shed under block 3.

Nice ... , so I hopefully can do something similar. :thumbsup:
Absolutely, no reason why not. It works really well. Just need to nail down which towers you utilize and get the PCI values. Information Rain regularly and willing share.

When I've had issues in the past I've emailed Shaylen Subramony and he's sorted me out chop chop....

That's on tower 637.

We have the external all weather router mounted on our roof. While much care was taken to getting the router alignment right, it doesn't seem to have made much, if any difference, to performance.
