Is SA music dying?

I think last year was one of the best for SA music. Very good quality compared to previous years. Ofcourse, there were acts which spoiled it (yes, Parlotones and Locnville to mention a few) but overall, significant improvement. I think this might be the 20th post. ;)

The Doors. Amazing. It confirms my suspicion. Many of the Doors old school (Marshall St) and even early Edenvale crowd feel the exact same way. And I was no excption. Until I was banned and went a few months without any metal DJing at all and someone asked me the same question: Why? What'd he do? and I realised those days were long gone and while his antics may have been somewhat pretentious at the time, at least he was giving the music airplay on the radio.

And well done on mentioning the Narrow. Now, who remembers Stingray?

I havent been to the doors in a while, but i do miss it. Nothing like deftones my own summer or chevelle - comfortable liar to open the dance floor and get you in a killer mood!
Barney was a legend, but i think he got a little full of himself!! And his obsession with the nude girls (springbok that is) was a bit much..

SA has quality music!!

-Zebra and Giraffe
-aKing
-***ofpolisiekar
-Van Coke Kartel
-Jax Panik
-Plush (awesome, awesome, awesome band!)
-Locnville (not too bad live)
-Isonchronous (AMAZING)
-Tidal Waves
-Parlotones
-Die Heuwels Fantastics
-Thieve
-Chromium
-The Narrow
-Seether (formerly Saron Gas)

To name a few, quality bands.

They...are EPIC...just EPIC

you must be joking right?

they promote "certain" SA music, [mostly k.k bands if you ask me].

They lost all credibility when they started playing Kurt Darren, Nicholas Louw, and all the other crap you hear on 5fm and Jacaranda.

I will admit, they were awesome when they were still MK89. but since the "name" change, they suck...
Sure, but there's still more promoting of local music that you don't see on any other local channels. I'm sure the MK Awards show was more entertaining then the upcoming SAMAs will be.

Ultimately, if you really want to see good bands, you have to go out to venues where these bands play live.

Doors is always a party, although for the past 4 years they've had exactly the same playlist. Yet whenever we go there we usually there till 4am lol. Unless one of us is getting klapped by one of their dumbo bouncers.

It depends what music genre though.

I listen to house/kwaito and there is some really good stuff that comes from SA artists.

There are now more good local house/kwaito music being made than in the past.

as long as the Parlotones still exist S.A. will be crap

What I hate about them, other than that they suck according to my likes, is that they sound like many international bands do.
