Is SA music dying?

LEts hope so. I'm tired of every second idiot singing about his bokkie of baby.

Why? What'd he do to you? He is on Jacaranda FM now - best 3 hours of my day (13 to 16h00) and Saturdays (12h00 to 14h00). Of course, the railroading that Benji Moodie sucks. Both of these individuals did - and continue to do - really good stuff for ZAROCK.

Its weird, I used to like his shows, but loathed him. The night zoo was ridiculously cool, uncle pauls bed time stories ftw!
Anyways, he started to get really annoying for me at live shows and clubs. I actually wanted to belt him trying to force everyone at doors to go down on their haunches for nelly the elephant..he dragged it out for ages.
Cant deny he did a lot for SA rock, but i just dont like the guy

Im tired of hearing these morons singing about how rich they are, or how they will blow themselves up for a girl.
What happened to obscure and random.

You guys should listen to The comic book theory I mean they not my friends or anything:whistle:

quality music worldwide is in a steep decline.

Skud jou bizkit.:D

Afrikaans music with the kiddy music for adults don't work for me (handjies, bokkie, "handjies klap koekies bak" etc). Jack Parrow is entertaining in the comedy genre but he's too dumb to remember his own name and need to repeat it the whole time.

Problem is: we're getting old and trying to compare the new bands to those bands mentioned above.

I'll add to your list: Tweak, Just Jinger, The Narrow

Marlowe – Tears on the Abstract was an AWESOME tune, still love it, but i wont say they are the best.

hehe, definitely not how i got my nick, trust me...

Jack Parrow/Die Antwoord etc are more BS than sokkie music [ill add the "in my opinion"]

I don't think it is at all dying. Parlotones are superb, so are locnville, goldfish, prime circle and loving goodluck... SA music is simply getting more awesome every time :)

Hey hey...i am not getting old!!! ;)

but i agree, i find myself finding less and less new bands that i enjoy and thinking about the good ol days of real music :)

Has anyone else noticed how repetitive SA music (especially if released within the last few years) has become? Afrikaans songs in particular.

Quite often you get 2 verses and a chorus which is repeated ad infinitum.

Seems like some SA lyrics writers still have a lot of learning to do.

well, if you like [and what to contribute] to "new" SA bands, see my sig, just post the band there, and i'll add it to my list [when i have internet at home again , telkom.....]

I get what you are saying, but do not agree that the problem is isolated to SA musicians, their international counterparts are just as guilty of this. (Perhaps I could agree that a higher percentage of South African musicians make themselves guilty of this, but this then agrees to the OP's post regarding a lot of musicians following a formulae for writing songs and not coming out with anything new)
