I see in the event logs of my BES server everynight between 12:08 am - 12:10 am that the BES server is unable to receive a ping response.

This means that IS must reset the connection at that time.

Anyone else experiencing this?

They reset the connection so that the radius server can update it's stats which only get sent through when the PPPOE session ends, hence the reset.

But really, what does it matter?

It's a Kludge -- they should be trying to find better ways of updating your useage.

Get a "Radius" server that updates in real time

RADIUS can (and does) update in real time. The problem is actually the Telkom NAS's (DSLAMs). Some of them don't correctly send the interim updates and they all have a rather big delay between updates.

One day we'll have bit-stream unbundling and the ISPs will be able to use their own NAS's that work :p

Pretty sure Openweb's IS accounts do not have 24hr resets
