Is the 8ta Network (Internet) currently down?

Hi

Can anyone confirm that the 8ta data network is, in fact, down, and has been for 2 days now. (That's what the folks at 081 183 tell me).

My Data sim just got activated today, and as I was unable to connect, I called tech support, and they informed me that the whole network was down.

Well I've got no problem whatsoever. In fact I'm getting the best signal I've had from the start, but that may be due to the fact that I installed an antenna and am getting a true 87% signal, as distinct from the 91-99 always claimed on the 8ta thing

Well, I still can't connect, and my signal strength is 98% .. :)

All I get is ... 'Connection Terminated'.

I've spoken to 4 people at 081 183 today, and they all say the the Network is down. However, that may well be their 'stock answer' when they have no idea how to help you.

Guess I'm buggered .. :(

Well, I'm all up and running now, and it had nothing at all to do with the Network being down. :whistle:

I phoned 081 183 this morning, and spoke to some guy (wish I had gotten his name, but, he sounded Afrikaans), and essentially told him that I didn't accept the 'Network Down' story, and that whatever the problem was, it was because somebody, .. somewhere, .. had not pushed a button or two. :erm:

Anyway, I explained everything to him, he took all my details, and assured me he would escalate the problem. :wtf:

About an hour later, I received an sms from some TM-SOC!! The message said that the order (I assume mine) was stuck on 'Notify Billing'. Not exactly sure what that meant, but interpreted it to mean, that although my sim was activated, somebody in 'Billing' had not done something or other. :confused:

About 15 mins later, I tried to connect and ... Voila!! .. I got connected. :D


So, It has been a bit of a head-banger, but everything looks ok now, and I'm extremly happy with the 8ta performance that I'm getting. i.e. 8 - 10 Mbps download speeds. :love:

So, whoever it was that I spoke to this morning, thank you so much for whatever it was that you did. I'm most appreciative. To all those 8ta support peeps that took the easy way out, by telling me the Network was down, .. I say to you .... :p .. :p

I suppose you have learnt your lesson upfront - when the network is up and running its great, and the less you have to deal with any support/administration/queries that you have the happier you will be as the right hand often has no clue what the left is doing...

I signed the 10gig contract yesterday and been having the same problems as you. They told me that the network was down thats why I could not connect.
I've been phoning 183 several times and no one can help me at all. Early this morning I phoned again and this guy told me that my order is stuck at notify billing,
he told me to go back to the store and they would help me but the lady there also could not do anything. I really wish I could speak to that guy you spoke to.
 
Hi guys.

I'm having trouble connecting to my account as well. I took out the deal on Monday, but still no connection...

Which connection type are you using under tools>general. if i use the NDIS, i get a connection terminated error, and if i select RAS(modem) i receive an error 628...

I phoned the helpline which said my simcard is activated, but when i phoned the store, they said they have trouble with their billing stuff... The helpline said the billing shouldn't effect connectivity if it shows that the simcard is activated...

So yeah, which connection type are ou guys using?
 
@ Mr. Right ... Sorry about that. I got so fed up taking names, that it got to a point where I couldn't be bothered anymore. However, I'm not sure if it will be of any use, but, when he sent me an SMS about the situation, he references somebody by the name of 'Abdul Fisher', who I think he spoke to about my problem. The sms was a bit wonky, so, I'm not quite sure how he fits into the picture. I'm sorta sure I didn't speak to an Abdul, as, the chap I spoke to had a distinct Afrikaans accent, but, you never know. :wtf:

@ pokkel ... NDIS is the correct setting. More than likely you have the same problem as I had, and Mr.Right has. :(

I'm also using the NDIS setting which is also tells me connection terminated each time i try to connect. When I went to the store today the lady told me that alot of customers are having this problem. There was an email circulated to the 8ta staff that the notify billing wont affect the customer connecting to the internet anymore but it is, so they still did not rectify the problem yet :( .

My internet is working now...

I sent my info to 8ta's contact us section and a technician called me to confirm all the details. He called me back later and told me that some of the numbers haven't been processed yet and he sent a request to the guys dealong with it. 30 minutes later it was working...

The guy who helped me only works till 7 at night, so try again tomorrow...
 
Hi Guys

I just want to say i'm connected to 8ta since this morning and its sweet. I'm getting 6mbps download speed from my house.
lol now i'm just sitting and thinking which massive file can I go download.
