Is the ANC splitting?

Belonging to any polical party is largely driven by emotional ties anyway. It's sort of like supporting a football team - you don't dump them when they lose, and in your eyes they are the best always.:D

So you are saying that joining a party is faith based, and no amount of proof to it's problems will make you change ships ? I know of other groups that have similar positions..

The only diff is that the party have an impact on you if they make policy changes, whereas the soccer team won't make any impact on you no matter how bad they play.

Policy differences between political parties are very superficial. Case in point DA vs ANC policy????
As far as I'm concerned they sing the same tune, and it boils down to who's doing the singing. That is where emotional attachment comes in, wherether we like it or not.

Wrong, I have seen a person getting a cardiac arrest when an opponent scored a cracking goal:D

Jungleboy the ANC is splitting because of ideological differences. Policy flows from ideology... disparate ideology = disparate policy.
No they are splitting because the Xhosa want to have / keep their hand in the pie and this has now come to and end, it is now Zuluboy's turn and they dont like it.

Can you provide a non-demographic explanation of why the Zulu now have the upper hand? You have said that the Xhosa's time has come to an end, but you have not provided a reason for this.

Are you implying that Terror Lekota is more right leaning than the current ANC NEC (which is dominated by left leaning communists and unionists )?
Methinks he is just another "power clinger" and there's nothing ideological about his U-turn

Notions of "right" and "left" in politics are simplistic; but yes, it is no secret that the ANC is a coalition and that "the communist left" is now in control of the NEC.

As for Lekota being "power-hungry": perhaps this is the case, though can the same not be said of Zuma, who you'll remember is our former deputy president?

Jacob Zuma is a zulu - right? He is the most powerful man in the country - right? there you go, he will look after his own people, simple fact.
We all know about the Xhosa, Zulu hatred towards each other.
Tell me, if there are more Zulus in SA than any other tribe or whatever you want to call it, why have they not been in charge?
Dont tell me this is not tribal. Yes there are Xhosa's that are now supporting Zuma but they just want a piece of the action.
They are all power hungry whores. The ANC is just that way. They tasted power and now will not let go.

marine1, this is the question I was asking you. If this is primarily tribal/race/heritage-based then why now? What has changed to give the Zulus the upper hand?

What a load of utter cr@p! Do some research before making such brain dead statements.

Example of a DA principle:
the rejection of unfair discrimination on any grounds;

However, the ANC actively supports discrimination on the grounds of AA/EE.

This is one the biggest issues in the country, and yet you say the parties are identical. :(

As I said, this has been going on for a long time, who said only now? Zuma - A ZULU, is now in charge. Does this not mean the Zulus now have the power? Would he not look after his own people first? I would if I were him. Also remember he has scores to settle with the Mbeki camp. The Xhosa are spineless IMO. They want to be businessmen and make money doing nothing. Debbie, this is all my opinion from speaking to people, yes it may be wrong but this is the opinion that I have got.

Sorry to burst your bubble but your assumptions are simply that- wrong. I won't lie and pretend that there aren't any tribal schisms within the ANC but not to the extent that you would have us believe. The fact that Zuma is Zulu is coincidental...although he played it up during his rape trial he has been very careful to steer clear of the tribal card.

You should also consider this: Many of Mbeki's opponents are Xhosas, like for Zwelinzima Vavi and Gwede Mantashe. Seeing black people play the tribal card is something that especially English-speaking white South Africans love because their British forebears were masters at "divide and conquer" and every disagreement between rival political groups in SA or Africa for that matter has a tinge of deja vu. I say this because in the early 90s the Nats, especially in KZN were egging on Gatsha and using him as a proxy to stop the ANC and that experiment kinda fell flat when reality sunk in post-94.

I know some whities would want SA to be consumed by flames of tribal hatred but its not going to happen because no-one has actually lost out with the removal of Thabo Mbeki.

Muleleki George and Lekota are pissed off but they're not about to declare war on anyone.

Did you just pull an Mboweni on us?

BTW, I don't think it's a simple tribal thing either. I think it has more to do with personalities and appetites for power.

My uninformed take on this is that there is no real split on the cards. Patrick the Terror is creating a major "threat" of splitting, which will probably have many of the party sh1tting themselves, thereby opening up room for "negotiation". The "splitters" will be offered compensation in one way or another, and the threat will go away.

Somehow I wouldn't be surprised if that is exactly what happens. But I, like some of the other members here, believe that an ANC split would be a good thing for our democracy, by taking away the ANC's two-thirds majority in parliament.

This is the best thing to happen to SA politics. Well Done Cde Terror. At least we have 1 leader who can stand up. Look at what irresponsible statements were made by ANYL chair and COSATU GS…. future leaders of this country that think they can bully the country. The new party will definately get my vote. South African who say that the new party is a mistake must take off their blinkers and see what is going on within the ANC, its organised crime at the highest level!!

This is hysterical, the old guard totally destroyed the country, health, police, army, all essential services are a bloody mess. They stole money and corrupted this country beyond belief. Now they want us to vote for them in a possible new party?? Are the sick? I wouldnt vote for either the Zumites or the any one of the old ministers. Look at the list we had.
