Is the ANC splitting?

Mbeki was also a relative unknown when he stepped into office. The only reason Mothlanthe is unknown is because he hasn't insisted on going about making a fool of himself.

I think these days (in SA anyways) being an unknown is probably a better recommendation for office than anything else. I doubt the majority of voters would agree with me though.

Mbeki was deputy president during mandela's term of office.

During apartheid, as the son of robben island prisoner (and rivonia triallist?) govan mbeki, t-bone was pulled out of the armed struggle against his wishes and shipped off to the UK to study economics.

He wasn't exactly 'an unknown' :)

Lol ... fair enough ... but I said "relative unknown."

Relative to, for instance, Zuma.

Besides that - Mothlanthe also spent some time in Umkhonto we Sizwe (was that spelt right ~_~) and was imprisoned for 10 years at Robben Island.

I'm just saying that he hasn't done anything (at least recently) that would attract the wrong kind of media attention, so nobody's going about labeling him an idiot.

The ANC will split- but not yet.

The soonest we can expect to see an ANC break up as I see it is when the
' struggle generation ' goes to the great voting booth in the sky.

At best ( or worse ) those disaffected with the ANC will not vote for them - but not for anyone else either.

Well !

I humbly stand corrected. A split may in fact be on the cards.

Great speech by Lekota.

Can I see or hear the speech somewhere?

I'm sure 702 will have a downloadable copy up on their website today sometime.

Thanks, I'm streaming as we speak. I'll try and look, but must say it is insanely difficult to get local streaming of anything official.

I have no doubt that this historic speech by Lekota will be made easily available online this week.

This started with a public letter from Lekota pointing out where and how the ANC had deviated from the policies fought for.

The response from the ANC was to attack Lekota personally and ignore the issues raised.

In turn Lekota issued his statement this morning again pointing to the issues.

Response from the ANC ?

Attack Lekota and ignore the issues.

As an ANC supporter in the previous elections I want them to answer the grievances.

PS: I do sense that Malema has become a liability - and will wait to see his fate.

Political Mastery

No no no no no no no! Stop saying that! Everyone just stop saying that! Stop seeing colour! The DA is NOT a white party. I think the correct phrase people are looking for is: "The DA is a competent party".

Please. Just. Stop.

The moment you realize that politics are about saying the right things at the right time to get what you want, the better for you I tell you...

U see the political game is the same as the Women game:
- Say the right things
- At the right times
- get what you want
= DONE

are you basing DA's competency on what they say on TV in the best of times, then you are more of a fool than what is currently happenin in this county

Given the choice of what the DA says verses what we know the ANC does, I chose the former.

That is exactly what people were saying in 1994 when they voted the ANC in power. IT even says in the Bible "True man base wisdom on actions, fools are firm believers in speech"

Well if it says it in the bible it must be true... and the earth is 6000 years old  (that was sarcasm)

The ANC were not voted into power in 1994 on the basis of what they said... there is a lot more to it than that (for example, apartheid).

Zuma's still mum on Malema ... as a matter of fact he is busy defending him. Says something about Malema coming into a leadership position in "poisonous times" (Zuma's words) ...

If Malema qualifies as leadership material then cockroaches qualify as beasts of burden.

What I still want to know is how can the Congress Of South African Students elect a leader (malema) who couldn't pass standard 6?

And you are basing the DA's incompetency on...? The great work they're doing in Cape Town? The fact that their leader is white? Or the fact that you have emotional ties to the ANC and aren't mature enough to see its weaknesses or anyone else's strengths?

Belonging to any polical party is largely driven by emotional ties anyway. It's sort of like supporting a football team - you don't dump them when they lose, and in your eyes they are the best always.:D

The only diff is that the party have an impact on you if they make policy changes, whereas the soccer team won't make any impact on you no matter how bad they play.
