I'm currently using the doBroadband Level 2 service from Telkom, 384k line and 2GB account.

Now I'm soon going to have 4 PCs in the house all using the internet for things like Facebook, Syke, MSN Video, torrents, etc.. and I'm wondering if 384k will be enough.

I'm thinking about upgrading to the Level 3, 4mb and 3GB account, but it's R300 more expensive.

Just wondering if it's worth it or not?

U do all that with 2 gigs?

Well.. I have a 30GB local account for torrents, and when the 2GB is done I buy prepaid, but never use more than 1GB.

Problem is, now my family are starting to use video chat and that killed almost my entire cap for this month in the past 3 days.. :-O

With 4mb I'm also worried that'll get even worse. But 384 among 4 PCs just seems very slow.

Tough choice, but with the video etc, I would lean towards buying a few more gigs of BW, instead of speed.
Or at least try that for a couple of months.

Once u get 4mps speed, u will have to pay in a bit to get it downgraded to 384k again, not that you'll want to once u're used to it.

Yea.. Might do that. I was wondering about that, how much is it to downgrade again?

250 to downgrade last time i checked

4 pc's will work fine as long as nobody games online you'll be good

These downgrade fees are are stupid - you might as well just cancel an reapply through an ISP where you can choose both your line speed and cap. The only problem is if your exchange is DSLAM starved you might loose you port.

In my opinion sharing a 384K line with so many pcs a bad idea especially if everyone online at one time. I would suggest forking out the cash and upgrade to the 4Mb line everything will be much faster and you seem to mind with everyone connected to it.

I am currently running a pc, 2 Laptops and a PS3 of the 4mb line play online games too with out any hassel really. But if you want a larger cap don't stick with telkom especially if it for international bandwith they are ridiculous with there prices only upside is the free local bandwith.

WHy not just order 4mbps but ask them to sync it at 1mbps or something. That way you have faster internet but it will take 4x longer than 4mbps to kill your cap. That way you get the "best" (what a joke) of both

Only problem is I do game sometimes, WoW.

Telkom seems pretty cheap to me, they're cheaper than the prepaid I used to buy from Webafrica, and you usually get 4gb out of a 2gb account, and yes then the local is good :)

Lol.. no thanks, if I'm paying for 4mb, I'd rather have 4mb :)

Was just a suggestion. Then you must be prepared for your 3 gigs to be used up pretty quick. Oh, and you are actually paying for a 1mbps line, you have just been on a "trial" for the last few years!!! Nice trial!!

That is true hey, well the first part.

Not true about the 4mbps though, it's advertised as up to 4mbps, not 1.. I know it did used to be 1 though and was just changed to 4 one day ;)

Oh, never knew that. I always that it was 1mbps on trial as 4mbps

I know it was like that for a while, it actually could be I guess we don't know what Telkom is thinking. But since they advertise it as 4Mb.. ;)
