Is this panel beater taking me for a ride?

I reversed into a pole with my Toyota Yaris (not the saloon) and there's a slight dent on the rear side panel above the tail lights that looks like it could easily be popped out. The paint has been scratched off a bit but nothing hectic.

I received a quote for R1,500 which seems mighty steep for such a tiny job.

Am I being screwed over or is it considered a fair price.

(Northcliff area if area has any factor on costings).

Nope, it's sounds like the average...

I had a automatic gate close on my Golf, and it scratched the passenger side badly and left two dents.

Quotes to get it repaired varied from R9,500 to R15,000.

Take a picture... just make sure its not JP's Panelbeater.
 
The Duco is probably what will set you back a bit. Fixing the dent is nothing, but painting is another story!

He probably needs to respray the whole bumper. You can go and find out the Duco prices for yourself at any decent paint shop, add your colour tint and the paint is a few hundred Rands.
 
For reference to (only) spray bonnet, bumper and the wheel arch section is R12k (quoted the same from 3 panel beaters).

The paint is quite obviously made from unicorn tears, and since unicorns are mythical creatures its hard to come by.
 
hahah that sounds like a bargain price to me. I ever so gently bumped my 2010 Kia Ceratos boot into a tree (don't ask) and it set me back +- R10k.
 
i have a dent in my passenger side door, and i shopped around, and the general quote was 1500 - 2000 just to pop it out, it didnt even need to be sprayed.
Then a friend told me about the Metal Cross in Fourways. So i went through there, and he said he'd do it for R800. cheapest i found. and he is very good.

I had something similar to this with my Peugeot 206 a few years ago and it cost R3000 to fix.
 
Sounds about right mate. It all depends what they have to do and what they quoted you for. If it is to just pop the dent out then it is too much. But Im sure they will have to spray or sumin for that price. Check the quote details.

Noted Sparkz0629's message above, but I once dinged my Golf. The fender was a bit smashed, and the bumper was scratched and that cost me R2500 in total to fix and respray. So maybe just check the quote details
 
My reply ties in with another where someone thought that he would automatically be ripped off by a car dealer.

What is it with people who automatically presume that they will be ripped off by anybody even vaguely connected with the car business?

That is an excellent quote - get it sorted out at that price and pat yourself on the back at not having had a bigger bill!
 
Yip sounds reasonable, my brothers GF also had da,age to her rear wheel arch, slight dent and paint damage, was around R3k if I recall.

In the motor industry you generally pay for what you get.

I would get 3 quotes then choose the middle one.
