Hey,

Has anyone else experienced "more" issues since Telkom split with MTN? I used to just leave my phone (iPhone SE) permanently connected to the MTN network, instead of it automatically "roaming" Worked very well for 2+ years this way.

Since Telkom now piggy-backs on Vodacom, I have constant issues, dropped calls very frequently, dodgy & slow data, thou now it's LTE, but in my opinion, I would rather have stayed with the MTN system, even though it was only 3G when on using them on the Telkom SIM.

What other "good" options are there that would be comparable to the Telkom FreeME packages?

Yeah, I would much rather they have stayed on MTN for roaming. Have had to turn VC roaming off via USSD and slowly closing down my Telkom contracts, only one left. Will probably replace it with a MTN one when it expires in a year.

Disaster of note

MTN was better. Calls now drop regularly and sometimes poor reception.

Funny thing is I was with Telkom the last three months and they were terrible, I then ported back to Vodacom and Vodacom is not what it used to be- poor version of itself.

Wonder if there is relationship between the two. Could Vodacom's issues be affecting Telkom?

They stopped roaming on MTN and started roaming on Vodacom in about August if I recall correctly.
So by the sounds of it, everyone is unhappy with this. I'll be moving my business away from Telkom when I'm back in SA in Feb. Back to MTN it is then.
I'm on MTN, bonus is this also means less tower congestion for us and more on Vodacom, sadface for Vodacom users..

Not going to lie but Vodacom used to be so so good but not anymore. I experience poor coverage and slow speeds it's really sad. I thought the Rain Vodacom roaming will make things better but it got worse and worse and even though I pay R1000 a month to Vodacom it just does not work that well. I either have to use a MTN or Telkom prepaid simcard. With MTN use Afrihost data and Telkom is the all round winner in the S10 with very decent Mo Nice deals for data and voice.

It's just a matter of time before the wheels fall off TelkomMobile network.
Porting the copper line numbers to the Mobile Network is going to cause more congestion

Does anyone know how long this roaming agreement with Vodacom is for ?
