iTunes Help please

In regards to John Alcock's lament about OS X 10.4's screencapture file format: To change the file format of the screencapture feature in OS X 10.4, use the following command line command:

defaults write com.apple.screencapture type pdf

You need to log out and back in for the change to take effect. And you *can* set the file format to PSD (Photoshop), which leads me to believe that you should be able to set the file format to any QuickTime-compatible format.

Sorry bwana, this seems to be the problem

Thanks for the help thus far guys, time for bed, can we continue this tomorrow?
Sure :)

Ok where do I paste the pic into?
Upload it to imageshack.us? You can pm the url if you prefer.

BTW - have you tried going to the itunes store page and change the default store at the bottom?

I just tested, and it does save to the desktop (but the setting of default jpg format as per bwana didn't work) :(
Did you log out and back in again? ;) You also might not need to use sudo.

EDIT @LandyMan - ok - I see you got it first.

Set it to jpg, but it still captures as png
Odd - logging out and then back in again should have enabled it.

Perhaps try it again and then reboot - it shouldnt make a difference but who know.

I will have a look tomorrow morning after it was off tonight. Maybe its got a bit of a headache :D

You dont really switch it off when you're not using it do you? I rarely reboot except for updates.

If you're having problems you could always ask em at macinista.

I cart it around every day between home and clients, so yeah, I do switch it off.

Not a major issue for me, just strange that it didn't work. But things like that tend to start bugging me more and more, as I know something is not working the way it is supposed to work, and then I can spend hours trying to figure it out :D

I cant imagine what the advantage would be for you to go through all the effort of a reboot when sleep would do. If you're worried about your battery possibly popping out or something like that you could put it into deep sleep. Check this out if you're interested - http://www.macosxhints.com/article.php?story=20061018014009924

It was as simple as changing the store at the bottom, thx Bwana

I actually put it in sleep once ... and never again. As I walk around in Pta CBD every day, I have it in a backpack (built for notebook, ipod, etc). On leaving one day, I was in a rush to get to a meeting on the other side of town, so I put it in sleep mode and in the bag. When I got the the meeting, I could barely take it out the bag it was so hot, so from there on I always switch it off.

Will have a look at deep sleep, thanks bwana.

Oh, and it is still capturing as .png :(

You're not inadvertently using grab right?

hehehe, nope (but with me it would have been possible).

I got it sorted though:

I basically reversed what I tried last night: sudo blah blah blah png (to "set" it to what it is actually doing) reboot
do it again, with sudo, nothing.
Reverse it again (might not have been necessary, but last night I didn't do it, and it didn't work).
do it again, without sudo, Bob's your uncle (not you BobJones :p)

Thanks for the tips bwana ...

Oh, and neio, how's iTunes in English, much better I presume? :D

Glad you got it sussed - there was always this method:

Darn, that's a relief... would have had to have had some pretty harsh words with my siblings otherwise!;)
