I've HAD IT with Afrihost

I was actually in a meeting yesterday with afrihost regarding something else. At the end of the meeting i asked how the uncapped accounts are doing.

They told me that most ppl mistook the uncapped accounts. They are there for day to day activities for browsing etc. Not for heavy downloading of torrents etc.

Gian even sent out an email warning their current subscibers but most chose to ignore that.

Why bring a company down so much when they did so much good for the broadband market.

I understand that the problems you are having are not to do with downloading but with autenticating. They are having a lot of issues with their radius servers.

Log into your clientzone and open a ticket up there. They will respond, sometimes even phone you and help you sort it out. Just mention to them that this is an ongoing problem and they need to speak to their developers about it.

I do not do heavy downloading ... actually only done 2gb so far this month (late night online gaming mostly contributed to that) .. all I want is a stable connection where I do not have to check usage every day and not worry ...
So for browsing and checking my mail.. eish.. it's crawling .. this product is meant for nothing really unless you have a 384 line.

And as far as the support goes.. ah well my ticket was responded to, yes.

This what happened

Yesterday morning : router did not connect, authentication failed. I left it and went to work
Yesterday afternoon : authentication error , logged ticket
About 1 hour : connected via pppoe and wow it worked , back to router .. authentication error
About 20 mins after that : Afrihost e-mail back and say that they detected that I authenticated successfully and it's now resolved.
Got mail back from 3 different support staff and the e-mail is exactly the same .. i.e. you don't have a problem, you authenticated successfully on this time.
But what they failed to understand it that I could not authenticate again after that.

Tonight I can connect again, but browsing etc. is dog slow. And I have just done over 2gb for the month ?

This question has been asked and answered often. Just do some looking and you will find the answer - there are whole threads on this

Axxess DSL R1.02 per Gb on express account apparently! This account must fly to pull those stats, more expensive but maybe worth it, Axxess express users let us know please.

Currently downloading at home and I see the speeds are very close to linespeed on my 4meg uncapped. Did 40GB thus far this month. Little bit high but lets see what happens.

I have issues in the evening at the moment but I am almost certain it's a Telkom problem since my sync speed goes from 4096 down to 702 or something stupid and then the line drops completely. Only happens after heavy rain also. How do you explain that to the Telkom helpdesk?!?!?

Is there any issues on the Afrihost 20gb for R580? I've got a WA 10gb for R490 and the extra 10gb could come in handy?

I always thought that's what 1-5gig accounts were for... So uncapped is for day to day browsing, thanks for clarifying...

No dude are you mental? 5-10gb accounts are for heavy downloaders, the unlimited uncapped accounts are for browsing and internet because you do not cut off hense the word uncapped :D.

You must be doing a lot of web browsing if its going past the 10GB just on browsing alone.

My wife is busy with her masters. We did around 7 - 8 GB per month not downloading any movies or torrents whatsoever, just her research and articles that we download, normal browsing and the odd youtube video.

You sure just youtube? Sounds like a bit of youporn in there as well you dirty dog you :D.

my personsal feeling with these acounts is scrap them, then shaped durinng business hours unshaped at night when you reach 200gb hard cap no local, no international. 200Gb @ R500 for now is reasonable, when seacom bandwith is untied after the world cup then look at uncapped again or bringing prices down, but in all honesty this multi level shaping is balls, rather give me a set 200Gb to use as i wish, then if i need more i will buy more.

I really think the only player who properly thought this all out beforehand was Mweb, the rest were all caught in a position to make decisions and offer packages to quickly. Guess that is why WebAfrica took a step back to see what will happen. I take my hat off to Afrihost for trying but they lose my support for how they handled the situation, lack of communication and service (although I'll give them points for admitting they made a mistake and offering users refunds.)
