footnote on this pageCases reaching the South African court system as a result of murders committed in prison confirm that gang members may be instructed to kill other prisoners. In such cases, the fact of gang membership may be regarded as extenuating circumstances. See, for example, S. v. Masaku 1985 3 SA 908 (A); S. v. Magubane 1987 2 SA 663 (A).

The company is still doing fine. What I want to know is there a way of changing the sentence to correctional supervision and community service.

Yes well, I had to close a company and send 6 employees home to tell their families they are homeless, due to a similar situation. A bit personal for me, so I digress.
The prospect of prison deters many from doing it in the first place. If prison isn't an option for white collar criminals any more, it will be chaos.
This is very sad, not only will she come out of there a completely different person she will never again be able to support herself financially through any normal job stream.
R80 000 in the bigger picture is not a lot of money, it didn't bring the company down and well we have no idea what her circumstances were that drove her to do such a stupid thing. I can't stand in judgement of her, we just don't know what made her do it.
OP, your best option is to contact a criminal lawyer and find out exactly what her options are. Decent lawyers cost a hell of a lot, but saving her from this misery may be worth it. Even if they can just have her moved to another prison.

You heavily underestimate the power of human decency. A financial penalty, plus some, plus some kind of reparitive time consuming service, will deter the same amount of people. It will just ensure that people that make mistakes like that, are kept away from the influence of prison life.
Prison works on paper, but in practice it is throwing the baby out with the bathwater.
