Java Developer - How much should we be earning

Sorry for the hijack, but anyone here knows what the average salary of a .net developer ( c#,vb,asp ) with around 5 years experience is?

not really sure, but some conversations I've had at people at some of my clients I think ATM it's more or less the same a with Java, there is however a lot more .net developers than java developers.

Search the interwebz a bit. The going rate on recruitment sites (PNET, Career Junction, Careers 24, etc) are a close estimation. I'd guess around R30k - R35k if you know your stuff and have a relevant qualification.

What % was your increase, perhaps then we can say "Yes, that's a fair increase stop being stupid" or "You're being shafted, look for more salary stuff!!"

Thanks for the input guys...but yeah.. there are definetly alot of .net developers
out there, But if you know your stuff, i guess you will be rewarded well...

yep, there are lots of developers out there, but not many good ones. A good skill to have is knowing how to handle business and the other areas/systems which you need to interface to.

These threads are stupid. Anyone can throw a figure around in here.

Is it so hard to search the um-teen-dozen IT job sites in South Africa for a similar position, work, experience, development language etc etc and just see what employers are offering?

I just stoped looking for a new job :(

You put 200 percent to studies , get some good awards along the way , etc etc , acquire many years exp. and still not getting what I want , so now I just took a break until I get that motivation back :D .....

@2cute2shy

How much do you want? (and what experience do you have?)

That is R0 then.. wow, you are very cheap!!

Because I don't own a company :D

Believe or not, such people (starting company without registration and without operating capital) are not that uncommon. So, be sure that potential employer is not "investors will jump in" kind of guy.

I've had offers from recruiting agencies where their clients are willing to pay from R350k - R450k Cost to Company per year.

That is about the region you should look at, if you are good.
