WUG membership fees. Good idea or bad?

For R360 annually I say it's an extremely good deal.

And I hope the members support this initiative fully for JAWUG to expand and get better.


Come on! for less than R1 a day! :)
 
so what happens when you're "in the club" ?
 
And there goes the free part of it.

Will they now not integrate with Pt Wug any more? So expanding and integrating with other WUGs are now not possible any more?

Why do I not seem overjoyed by this? R360-00 is not much, but this seems like a step backwards for me?

My word MyWorld - it's still free - you just aren't a "club member" then, whatever that means...
 
This is the BEST NEWS EVER!

I like their plans:
1 - Get 100% unequivically legal.
2 - Sort out hardware ownership issues.
3 - Expand.

Getting organised is the best possible move.
 
It's not a bad thing, this way they can have some money to expand the network, somebody has to pay for the equipment and somebody out there is putting in a lot of time to make this thing work.

Best of all it's still free but those who want to pay can, and no I'm not from the WUG trying to get ppl to pay I'm not even on the network but was interested in it at some stage.
 
I still want to join this....

I have a yagi +cable, got a box... just need a routerboard and a very long network cable !
 
I think the annual fee route is a very good and very much needed thing. Instead of having to rely on sponsors to fund everything, they can now use the fees to pay for everything that's required. R360 isn't much, and provided the money collected can be audited, there shouldn't be any legal issues either (no one's allowed to make money out of the deal, that's all).
 
I am just concerned about the amount of piracy going on within these networks, now you are charging a fee and I believe you are just going to open up a window of opportunity to get sued by someone that does not like the freedom of the distribution method.

Why bring piracy into this? The network is the same as the internet, no one controls what goes on in any wug.

Completely the opposite. The new formalised structure allows more opportunities to interconnect and peer with other networks... not less :)

Jawug doesn't _need_ to do anything.
You need to help.
Perhaps you're not understanding how this whole WUG thing works?
