Jimmy Manyi at it again

Hi Sox
Who is Jimmy? He is the 'numero uno' Commission for Employment Equity chairperson.
His orginisation, which btw does not have a single white face in it, is responsible for the employment equity reports to baas Thabo and Co.

It is not really a case of jumping to conclusions really. Jimbob Manyi has said more than enough in the past for one to form a relevant opinion I think.

Some more of his gems here. The man is an afrikaans box.

I was asking a-person to explain who "Manyani" is that punts the value of people so much. He can at least have the decency to spell the the man's name correctly.

In my saying we are jumping to conclusions, I'm referring to the situation at AForbes and not past instances, Manyi has made up his mind that the new chairman is there to shadow Moyo. We just need to know what his mandate is. And as I said before, if he is there to "check up" after Moyo, then I agree with Manyi on this one.

It is strange to appoint an executive chairman when the worldwide trend is towards non-exec chairmen

I it has been pointed out with cases like Cape Town Mediclinic and the "missing" records, Corporate Governance is not all that high on SA companies priority list.

So which means that dude has some role to execute and I would love to know what it is.

Is this what it has come too? A white gets employed and it's racist? Is there nothing wrong with this picture?

The only thing wrong with this picture is appointing someone to "Oversee" a CE.

That begs the question, why do they have to employee a person to oversee him? Another incompetent person employed on the basis of skin colour?

You see, they don't have to do that. That's what Jimmy is saying. Unfortunately, for them it doesn't seem so since they believe that every black man needs a white master to oversee him in case he can't cope. That is racist in the extreme.

Pure speculation.

Pure garbage actually and inline with Jimmy Manyi's rhetoric.

You're taking one situation and generalizing. I just think it's sad in this case they actually have to do it.

Pehaps you should have read this before asking that stupid question.

Actis partner John van Wyk said the consortium had full confidence in Moyo and that “it is a pity that the appointment of Campbell is seen as diminishing Moyo’s role and racist”.

“The consortium has full confidence in Moyo as group CEO and hence he continues in this role. There is no suggestion that Moyo’s role will be diminished. We have every confidence in Moyo’s ability to continue to lead the group as CEO,” he said.

We have been very impressed with Peter’s performance in the job, which is demonstrated by the strong financial results for the year to 31 March 2007 under very difficult circumstances and the management of the reputational issues that faced the company,” he said.

Given this statement, the appointment of Campbell as executive chairman is a contradiction. It does not tell us what necessitated the appointment and what his role will be.

Exactly!

Unfortunately, it is often the case. To name two examples that I personally have encountered:

I know of one man who sat on the board of one of the largest companies in SA. He was known to regularly fall asleep during meetings, and during his whole time there, said not one word. This self-same person then landed a prominent job in local government, even though he was completely unqualified for the job. I could say a great deal more about him too.

Another example is the Chairman of a large mining corporation who was financially illiterate.

Tell me something, how is someone supposed be able to account for a company's performance, when they cannot understand it themselves?

No Jozi, what is racist and corrupt is that to do business in South Africa, you need to appoint a member of the ruling party to sit on your board, regardless of whether they are competent or interested in doing the job properly.

Essentially, this is a form of legalised racketeering. It has nothing to do with correcting past imbalances and everything to do with corruption and cronyism.

You are exhibiting bad form Tassidar, by trying to illustrate your point through anecdoctal evidence, which you know very well cannot be verified. Furthermore, such anecdoctal evidence does not mean that it is universally the case.;)

Let's say that you're not lying about any of this since you clearly won't be proving proof of your allegations. Any company that employes a token in such a crucial position deserves what they get.

Another example is the Chairman of a large mining corporation who was financially illiterate.

Another unsubstantiated allegation. Let's please refrain from making wild statements like these without providing proof guys please.

And......Member of the rulling party ????? I'm not sure what you're on about, but have a look at this.
