A live-action reboot of Warner Bros.' Superman film franchise, the Man of Steel's newest cinematic leap comes from author and writer Ta-Nehisi Coates, with Hollywood heavyweight J.J. Abrams producing. Assuming everything on the project goes fairly smoothly, the reboot could very well end up being the first standalone Superman film since director Zack Snyder's Man of Steel was released in 2013.

And, most interesting...

There is no official cast for the Superman film reboot yet, as the script for the film is still being written. Early signs indicate that Henry Cavill will not be reprising the role of Superman for the film, with a Black actor expected to take on the character.

I know you started this to preach you race sermon but you know that isn't the reason they never made another superman since man of steel.

You do realize that this is not a race sermon thread. I do not care why they have not made once since. Fact is, a new Superman is coming in 2023/2024 and they clearly mentioned the role may or will be reserved for a black man.

Whether we want it or not, Superman will become black in the next movie. A DC decision and nothing we can do about it either.

If I was DC, I would rather have created a brand new character, give him similar or even better powers and have him kill off the white Superman instead and then taking over the role. Just something different, right?

Good grief it's a new decade and we're still remaking superhero movies.
It does raise an interesting question of when new superheroes enter the cultural fray. Feels like we been stuck with superhero characters created mostly all in the 80's or earlier already.

Why is the skin colour of a fictional alien from another galaxy so off putting to you? Does his skin colour change anything about his character?

For real though. I mean aside from it being a fun thing to argue about...who actually gives a shit? Why are you so wound up in this stupid narrative about race in movies? Maybe it seems to you like it's movie studios over-correcting for something - and maybe it is sometimes, but if you'd look around for a moment you might see a younger generation getting potentially instilled in them that race is as irrelevant in relations as is the size of someone's foot. But so long as you're making this constant noise about it, you're possibly hindering a new generation from getting over a cultural hump.

Least important thing I've heard in a while. Who cares.

Well, I grew up with this alien knowing him to be white, in all movie adaptions I saw. So, over the years, I kinda got used to that. Still struggling to accept all the different characters since Reeves' times. I do not care if they make him black or any other colour. They are making the movies and we have no say. You have to watch what they release or you can simply go around watching nothing at all. Your decision.

By the way, I have always said that Superman had to end with Reeves, but DC and Hollywood has not been creative enough to think up a new character.

I am still waiting on a good explanation for how a race of black supermen could have evolved on an ice planet.....
