That's as far as I know because of a lack of ozone not lack of hot sun. The kind of light causes a kind of pigmentation.

Since Superman is a native of Krypton, a planet that had a red sun, under a yellow sun (like that of Earth's his Kryptonian cells act as living solar batteries, absorbing solar energy and giving him superhuman powers.

So seems he spent a lot of time in the sun, and got extremely dark ....

The planet was destroyed late in its life due to internal pressures (In most versions).

Krypton appears, or is at least mentioned, in almost every version of the Superman mythos. It has changed completely over the years while retaining many elements from its past.

It is the homeworld of Superman, but also to Supergirl, Krypto and other Kryptonians. Unfortunately, the destruction of the planet also created Kryptonite, radioactive chunks of the planet which are deadly to all Kryptonians. Jor-El told Louise McCallum, that Krypton has colors that humans couldn't even dream of.

I don't believe that there is a clear origin for Krypton. I would argue that it was traditionally a crystallised planet, hence the association with ice, but there is comic source material which point to Superman's Fortress of Solitude being an imitation of Krypton's environment, a lot of which is elaborated upon in the Extended Universe. The ice in which the spaceship was buried wasn't even from Earth. So... meh loose interpretations.

There are so many universes in both Marvel and DC, that it is hard to define anything as concrete. You would need to assume that every given source would need to be unique to its own verse.

With that out of the way: Almost Every thing live action (have not watched the latest TV show) after the monumental and inspiring and ... human take on Supes by the legendary Richard Donner was just plain bad. I do not care if he is Black/Yellow/Brown/White, but Warner have butchered the character and his legacy. And I am not even a Superman fan.

Miles Morales, Falcon and others have proven that what these characters represent and symbolises to (us) nerds and other ('normal') people are more important.

Following which Earth? Crisis on Infinite Earths are a crossover of multiple Earths. As I said, it is very hard to define anything as concrete without establishing the verse wherein it is found.

For most non-comic readers, of original source, they were introduced to this Krypton,

Assuming, by source material, Red suns have a cool surface.

It is in my view completely irrelevant to 'correctly' theorise what type of planet Krypton is exactly without establishing it in source particular to canon. The history and culture of Krypton has been revised many a time.

DC can decide tomorrow that all Kryptonians are black, and when they want a white Superman in thirty years time again, then the same type of arguments will be had all over again trying to reason for how it has been for the past thirty years why dare to change it now.

From my standpoint, there is enough current and relevant source material for a black Superman. It exists, and it is canon, but it is not from a popular source or Earth. Unless JJ Abrahams creates a new Superman with a unique and new story.

Calvin Ellis has been introduced in Crisis on Infinite Earths and there is Val-Zod introduced in New-52 which gives continuity to Earth-2 by succeeding Kal-El. Earth 2 is the original source material for the greater part of all DC universes, of which New-52 is a reboot.

Now I know exactly which source material is going to be exploited by JJ Abrahams. Kal-L is going Black Lantern. Val-Zod is going to pick up the Superman mantle, and strike down Kal-L who is corrupted.

[EDIT: the house of El being the house/lineage of God] There has in recent movies I have noticed been a great emphasis on him striking cross poses, dying, being resurrected, being addressed by his father as "my only son" and "sent to save them" and so on.

This ties in with the theory (give it the credence you will) that the S stands for Satan and he is actually an Anti-Christ figure. The funny thing is making him black will only reinforce this theory because it will identify him with Nimrod who was a decedent of Ham..... there is a lot of rabbit holes people go down trying to identify this future world king.

I hope they can pull it off. We haven't had a good Superman movie since the 80s. Henry Cavill is so boring to watch and the entire DC cinematic universe is just a hot mess right now.
