Job ad: whites only, please

Looking to hire a commissioning editor in Johannesburg at an annual salary of R800 000, the ad read: “Please note: We are specifically looking for a white, English-speaking commissioning editor as this role is for someone who will produce soapies and programmes in this specific demographic.”

Alerting City Press about the patently racist ad, one source – who does not wish to be named for fear of jeopardising their employment prospects – applied for the position and engaged with the recruitment agency, Kandhi Consulting.

Personally, don't see anything wrong with the ad. They explain why and its a valid explanation.

It's stupid. Exclusion of pEople from applying is not fair.
The chances of someone non white English speaking being good for the role are slim but they do exist. Pick the best person from the applicants you get.

How does this differ from the ars that say preference will be given to previously disadvantaged folk?

It doesn't say that preference will be given, for a start?

Aside from that, no different. Racist hiring is racist hiring. Both suck balls.

I am disgusted!

R800k per annum for producing soapies! That is a colossal waste of money.

What about this one?

Like we don't have white producers doing content aimed at black people. We need to get out of this mindset, it is the same with adverts, though that's changing now.

So we still only make shows for white people really?
You probably mean "so we still make shows for only white people"?
And waht would be wrong with that? I don't want to watch crap thats intended for blacks.
And no, there is 7de Laan, Isidingo, and on E -tv a cr@p load of rubbish for blacks to watch.

And yet whenever there is an advert or other content that comes across as culturally insensitive to a black audience everyone says the company was at fault for not having black producers or ad directors. Rather confusing. Seems it’s okay to insist that creatives targeting a black audience should be predominantly black, but don’t you dare suggest the reciprocal, or for that matter even set out to create anything designed for a white demographic, because you’re not even allowed to acknowledge that there is such a thing worthy of targeting for content.

It's beyond your capabilities I won't try and explain.

As soon as that show is produced I am going to organize my people and we will watch it, we leave all those crap black people's shows and watch your show, how does that make you feel?
