I came here to say.
Pnet, but do not put your phone number down only email.
same with linked in. do not put your phone number.

my last 4 interviews and my last 2 positions came from LinkedIn. a decent profile on there allows you to become quite picky.

So far in the last 3 weeks, all I have been given from recruiters has not been helpful. They either/or want me to fill in a crap ton of forms, pretty much repeating everything in my C.V.and then keep sending me web developer jobs and I'm not a web developer "No Mrs X does it say MVC on my CV anywhere?"

Anyway ranting doesn't do anything I'm more a proactive "just get it done" person.

At the moment I am actively looking for other avenues aka sending my C.V to companies directly. Thanks a lot for the advice and links all of you. I will let you know how it goes. I have an interview tomorrow in Sandton and another on Monday in Rosebank. Those two I set up myself without any agencies, so *fingers crossed*

Recruiters are like real estate agents or lawyers. Sure not all of them are the scum that washes up on the beach after new years day, but I am yet to meet ones that aren't

I Pm'ed you to send me your CV. Direct to company looking for good quality devs.... if I recommend you you can get your foot in the door quite quickly, hence why I want the CV (plus I get a referral fee because recruitment agents are lank expensive)

Well then you're looking in the wrong place.

I did thanks halfmoon, just a quick question, where abouts are you based?

I send my C.V. to them, they said they only take on people with a degree.

It's frightening how many web devs jobs are out there.
Same ones just posted multiple by various recruitment agents. Also because web dev jobs are so generic, recruiters use them to post fake jobs and harvest CVs

I suspected so. Who else puts an advertisement up for 3 months.

Yup. Non-negotiable they told me.
BWHAHAHA!!

"Non negotiable" when it suits them. They're on my list of companies I'd never work for. Their "hiring" practices are questionable and their contracting practices even more so. You dodged a bullet.

As a matter of interest, Solarian, how much work experience do you have?

Oh dear. Please will you share the other companies on your list, and all these dodgy practices so that all of us can be more vigilant next time.

Well Gijima is on there as well.

I take it you work for Entelect. Do you know about them offering recruiters 10% over and above their usual rate to poach devs from specific companies? Contracting out junior devs as "seniors"... Let's not open up the rest of the can if worms shall we.
