Well Gijima is on there as well.

I take it you work for Entelect. Do you know about them offering recruiters 10% over and above their usual rate to poach devs from specific companies? Let's not open up the rest of the can if worms shall we.

Yeah, I do. I'm not a recruiter, nor was I poached or head hunted, so I can't confirm or deny anything that you're saying there.

Have you worked for them before? Or are these worms sourced from other people's opinions?

I worked with them before. I was there when the client ended their contracts. I was there when they tried to recruit me "Hi, this is Entelect, your competition".

Some people I know went to work there and they seem happy, but I won't, not with the name they are making for themselves.

Not really sure what you're trying to say. Did they try and recruit you? Is that why you don't like them?

Should companies not try and recruit? How else are they supposed to get employees?

Also not sure about what name they're making for themselves in your circles, but I can share with you some of the things that they do for the development community in SA, and just how much we as developers are exposed to through these involvements. If you care to find out.

If a company is on a huge recruitment drive then that means that they're doing something right with their clients and they need devs to place at these clients. Which should indicate that the name they're making for themselves with those clients is doing just fine. I've yet to hear anything negative about them and I've been exposed to a lot of clients where I've worked and presented.

You didn't really read or grasp what I said in those posts, and of course you are going to defend them since you work for them.

Don't see the point of this discussion really, if you are happy working for them then good.

I'm not defending anybody. I was genuinely interested in finding out what name they're making for themselves. I've only ever been exposed to the opposite.

I'm extremely happy. That doesn't mean that I'm a blind loyalist.

Hope you're happy where you are too. :)

Hi Folks,

As a senior manager at Entelect i'd be more than happy to have a discussion one-on-one with anyone here who has questions about our hiring policies (I understand the degree-only policy is a sticking point, and while this means we deny ourselves access to some really great talent out there, it is a brand decision that we've committed to).

Entelect has some direct competitors on this forum, for example Mr. X works for one such competitor (who are a great company too, by the way). While it's understandable that he won't be kind to us in a public forum, I think this sort of gossip is unprofessional and misleading. We've built our brand on being an employee-centric company, recognized formally two years in a row by Deloitte BCTWF and a number of HR awards - testament to our commitment to building the best software company in SA.

If you're keen to learn a bit more about Entelect or up for a friendly debate please feel free to contact me.

Hi Tim IMHO the DBCTWF is BS. It doesn't include all companies in SA and my understanding is you have to pay them to evaluate you so only a handful of companies do, making it a bought award to be on the list. Can yo confirm this as I might be talking out of my arse?

IMO I would equate the DBCTWF as a expensive online degree that you buy without attending class or writing tests get. For someone who has the degree requirement but proudly mention DBCTWF is rather hypocritical.Th reason I am against the DBCTWF because I once worked for a company that got on the list but work environment was crap and it was a backward nepotistic company.

I made it clear that those are my views and also said I know people who work there and who are happy. Me, personally, do not like you even less so after you now choose to be unprofessional and use my real name (that is childish and targeted) and saying it is "understandable" that I won't be kind towards you in public (I assume your reasoning is by my association with another company). The company I work for is not relevant in this discussion.

If you reckon I am unprofessional for "gossiping" (ie. mention Entelect's name in a negative way in public) then I guess we are all unprofessional for "gossiping" about Telkom, Afrihost etc.

Regardless, at least we are now on a first name basis and flattered that little old me and a post that would've been forgotten by now got the attention of a senior manager.

Hi Skim,

Thanks for engaging. Fair - I won't challenge you on that impression, the value of an award, much like beauty, is very much in the eye of the beholder. You are correct in that companies have to pay in order to participate, which narrows the pool. The reason for that is because executing the research that determines the finalists and winners, is quite a time consuming and knowledge-intensive exercise. The award is not simply handed out and you certainly can't buy one, it's based (broadly) on feedback and surveys conducted at all levels of the organisation in question.

It's definitely not the holy grail, but I think it's a great validation of some of the initiatives that we've been working on over the last few years.

Deloitte must be coining it. Even for a tiny pool if only 100 companies participate and pay 100K each to participate it means Deloitte scores 10 million for sending out surveys to 100 companies.

If you had 100 staff members and instead spent the 100K on 20 000 soda cans then each and every staff member could have a free cool drinks every single working day. That would make staff much happier than having to complete a feedback form.

Companies are already doing that and more.

Free soda loses its novelty pretty damn fast. Its just sugar water. My current employer does free fruit every morning which is a much better (bananas, grapes, apples, cherries etc).
