Good evening MyBb,

I have spent most of the evening looking for solutions to my problem.

Problem:
I have 3 landline numbers with telkom. They are all at different locations and, mostly, I am only present at 1 location.

I would like to link the other 2 telkom numbers to the number that I am at most of the day so that I can answer the calls there.

I see telkom has an always-on solution which you can use with the hunting plan. I also saw solutions regarding VoIP, porting your number, forwarding your number but I am unsure where to begin.

I could be missing an "easy" solution as I'm sure there would be other users who have had the same need to be solved. I have read the threads on here but some of them are dated 2010/14/16 and with the advancement of technology there might be new solutions.

Thank you

Edit: I'm unsure of the correct forum to post this in and I am also limited in my posting abilities so I do apologise in advance if this is the wrong forum.

I just went through the porting option with fresh phone, took them about 7 days to do it, you pay less than R150 once off for the porting. Once the number has been ported to them, you able to divert calls to another number on there portal, so you can divert the number to the location you at.

I was also reluctant to do it as I hadn’t used fresh Phone before but it was smooth process.

Make sure your Telkom account is up to date and you don’t cancel it till the number has been ported.

Get a cellphone...then people can reach you wherever you are......

Thank you very much @rog163. I appreciate the feedback. How many numbers did you forward? Was it just one number in your situation? Did you have adsl with the line that you ported? I have adsl with the 2 lines that i'd like to port. So if im not mistaken i would then cancel the line with telkom but tell them i would like to keep the adsl running? I think thats what i read on other threads regarding adsl while porting the number. Fiber isnt available in the area(s) yet for both lines.

@MightyQuin i'd have to look into this new technology.

@gamer16 Luckily i can only be reached on the fixed line and im always stuck in "traffic";)

It was just one number I ported, no adsl on the line.

see the below link, one of the questions someone asked is if they still want to keep the line, apparently you state that on the form when you submit the porting form and they allocate another number to the service.

Thank you @rog163. I did see that on their site but would like to make sure im doing the right thing. I did also call telkom and ask them about forwarding which they said could be done if i submit a letter with my request. Cant be done on the phone call (crazy if you ask me).

Do you have fiber at home? Which phone did you end up purchasing?

Yeah, on Telkom fibre with openserve, I bought to ATA converter suggested on fresh phones website so I could still use normal phones on it.

Thank you very much @rog163.

I appreciate all the help and assistance. I would assume that you could get the app on your phone without the voip phone or do you have to get the phone? Would you recommend that I port all 3 numbers or just the 2 that I am not present at?

I know you only did it recently and I do apologise for all the questions.

Unbelievable how complicated the youth want to make a simple call forwarding task. Just do the paperwork and set it up and the issue will be solved! It will, of course, be up to you to ensure you forward calls to the number where expect to be when required. And no, you do not want this to be set up with a simple telephone call to any service provider. I have been doing that with my home landline for 40 or more years when going to CT! the only time i do not do it is when someone is house-sitting.

Thank you for the reply @Geoff.D I didnt think it was that simple.

I read as many posts as I could and telkom forum pages to try and come to a suitable solution for my problem.

From what I understood was that you would be charged for the call that was forwarded from the line that would go "unanswered". I also read of all the problems with the standard forwarding from telkom and wanted an improved solution. I wanted to avoid all of this and was looking at different products to achieve the desired result.

What do you mean by "you do not want this to be set up with a simple telephone call to any service provider"?

Thanks again Geoff

You don’t need the voip phones, once the port was done on mine I started getting calls on the app on my cell phone.
Porting all the numbers is up to you, I probably would as you will need to replace your adsl soon as Telkom are moving away from copper. They will try sell you there LTE solution.

Move one across to test the process.

Porting is NOT the same as call forwarding. ..... This is about forwarding calls from one or more fixed-line telephones to somewhere else. Porting is about changing a service provider. Call Forwarding is about temporarily moving incoming calls from the normal termination point to somewhere else.

There is no hope for the Millenials.

^^This
What your want is forwarding, just call telkom and sign up
You can then divert calls to where ever you want, its as simple as dialing (iirc) *21*number you diverting to# from the line you want to divert

No one said it’s the same, do you know how to read? OP asked about different options.

The number porting is an option, just for the benefit that he won’t have to deal with Telkom once it’s done.
The fact that I can do any changes I need to on fresh phones portal and not have to call in 10 times and hope to get hold of a competent help desk techie.

Now go back to reading your newspaper old man.

The point is he and apparently, you want to buck the system and that is why he and apparently you never get anywhere when dealing with Telkom. As posted, just do the right thing contact Telkom and set up call forwarding and his problem goes away. Now you go back and crawl into whatever hole you came out of.

Buck the system... ok let the OP “Do the right thing” what ever that means.

At OP do the right thing and stay with Telkom- pay the forwarding costs and deal with Telkom support that only you and me apparently struggle with- it’s the right thing to do!!!

Rather get a VOIP account from whoever (but I would recommend Freshphone) and then port all 3 numbers to that VOIP account. There are several advantages to this:

1) The biggest one is that you get rid of Telkom as your service provider
2) You can manipulate the numbers however you see fit, you can forward them to each other, set them up as separate lines, converge them into a single line, etc
3) Once you port the numbers your Telkom account is automatically cancelled, you don't even have to cancel it yourself

No ways... what are the chances @Geoff?? a third person that would rather NOT want to deal with Telkom as an ISP.

I said before, OP asked how to do call forwarding on fixed lines and it is and has always been easy to do IF you take the trouble to do the paperwork.
Whether he finds that solution is now appropriate for him or not is his business. The point I made is it is not nec to port his numbers to an alternative provider or technology to get the same result.

You go and play somewhere else and blow bubbles, some of us have had very good service out of Telkom for more years than I choose to remember and are not going to change just because you lot can't be bothered to follow simple procedures.
In fact, I have had more issues with MTN and Vodacom over the years than I have ever had with Telkom. So there would be zero reason for me to the give up my current service till I move or die.
