I think people who commit suicide are EXTREMELY selfish, no matter the excuse.

Well there is one thing we can agree with. It s a selfish act. The problem is that people see suicide from the perspective that the suicide victim is in complete control. This is not the case. Depression has been well studied and scientists have shown that it alters the chemical make up of the brain. This means that the depressed person may not be aware of what he/she is doing, rational thoughts of self preservation and self control may not be able to be made by such persons. Depression has for a long time been seen as an emotion and therefor something that one must just shake off, when in fact it is a very real and very serious psychological disease. A clinically depressed person is often described as not being the same person as they once knew, this is because they are not, personality changes are a symptom of the depression. So a person may not be himself/herself in the cases of suicides. It's kind of like expecting a dog to know right from wrong.
 
the thing is that the people who are left behind sometimes can't help. what can you do for someone who has an incurable condition? nothing. so at the end of the day no one is to blame, the person who committed the deed nor the people left behind.
sometimes we should step into a person who is suffering to that degree's shoes and thank god it's not me/us. walk a mile in their shoes before you utter a word. it is hard to deal with something so bad you don't know where to turn.

I fully agree with this..

People must also remember "he claimed health services refused to treat." Sure he felt the "world" was against him when the motorists started shouting that at him. But who knows what he was thinking.

I think people are very desensitised in the world these days. You hear about death all the time, whether it be a taxi accident, a bombing in iraq or in some movie. And i think things have come to a point where someones death has no real affect on other people in the wold (beside family an friends) thats why most dont care.. Which is reeally sad.

Then again there are people dying every second, and you cant stop an moarn every one as you'd never get to living your life..
 
If the motorists said "Jump" and he was on the pavement, would he have? No! Freedom of speech, they could have said "Have a great day" and then he jumps. Does that make the people who said "Have a great day" the problem? I dont think so.

what the hell kind of argument is that?

no one arrested the people who told him to jump so they all had their freedom of speech.

and you honestly think there's no difference in them saying "jump" (effectively "go kill yourself, we dont care") and "have a nice day"?
 
I don't know what type of skin condition this guy had but as a sufferer of full-body eczema, I can tell you it's not fun; there have been times when my skin has been so red and inflamed that it hurts to move (even breathing becomes painful). When I was in my early teens I had numerous episodes where the doctors wanted to hospitalise me because of the severity of my skin condition. Depression (which I also suffer from) is bad, but skin diseases are their own special kind of unrelenting hell - especially if they're not correctly treated - so I understand exactly how this guy felt.

As for the so-called people who shouted "jump"... they do not deserve to exist. Paul Cowling was a greater human being than all of them.

And before someone calls me out regarding the schoolgirl who jumped to her death - don't bother. Different people, different circumstances.
