June Telkom Internet Capped Users

You get 300 - 500 with DSL512 shaped. But that's from two other people's experience, not my own... one uses Imaginet, the other TelkomInternet. Theoretically unshaped should make a significant difference, but i have no knowledge or experience of it being really beneficial over shaped.

Unless you absolutely need the best latency, shaped will do just fine.

Check out WebAfrica's prepaid 1gig options. Buy 1gig shaped, and 1gig unshaped. Use both extensively (i.e. do some solo quests, do a big raid, do big battlegrounds, etc.) and then compare. That'll be the best option so that you can get a hands-on feel.

Download wise, i get 17-20kb/s on most torrents. HTTP, 20kb/s. Used to be 24 but Telkom did some divine intervention :/

Will keep it going as long as posible tho. Just wasted 3.2GB of that on the windows vista public beta. The damn iso seems to be corrupt. Only get to 17% and then some stupid error. Quite a few people have been getting the problem. Guess I should start the download again quick before I'm capped

I am trying to find out if lets say the first bunch of users get capped at the begining of the month (< 10th) at say ~8-9 GB, does it mean that if I keep under 8 GB for the entire month I won't get capped at all ...

Nope... ive noticed sometimes your account gets capped at like 5 Gigs.... others 20... in the same month just different times.

yes, but it could be that they need to reach some treshold in order to calculate at how many gigs to cap users, so basically, in the begining of the month, nobody gets capped, irrespective of how much they have downloaded, until such date that the global treshold value has been reached, then everybody above a number calculated from that threshold gets capped, the rest continue uncapped, even though some are above 3 gigs, then you buy another account, and you get capped at the calculated earlier in the month number of gigs. You add to this the 24 hours reconnect interval, and the numbers look pretty different ...

to make things even worse for the colculations, they might adjust the cap after it has been determined once, so if the overal daily usage drops at some stage, they might say, ok increase the cap to +extra 2 GB or something along those lines ...

I am really eager to figure out how this works, if I can get +/- 10 gigs per month for R250 will be my life saver, problem is that I need to know how much I can use, so I don't get capped a week or two before the end of the month

maybe the mods should make an anonymous poll or something, I have a feeling that people don't feel like posting the numbers because everybody will know how much they are downloading! This way we will never figure out the telkom capping system!

Well never being capped Yet, using sat link for downloads, But today I was P2P downloading and bypassed the Sat to see whats up, had an power failure now battle to connect to certain sites. used 3.02G. on Telkom Internet When and how can I be sure that I am capped?? SASA do not show anything but I can connect to Saix with SASA. P2P do not connect also!
