June Telkom Internet Capped Users

well I think that using telkominternet you actually contribute less to the overal telkom profit. Lets say I download 10 gigs this month and I paid R250, this is R25 per gig. If you go to any other provider, you pay at least R570, from which R500+ go to telkom, or they make R50 per gig that way ...

Very interesting and very well put.

While that does make sense, another way to look at it is that for every informed user paying R25/gig for 10 gigs, that would mean about 5 uninformed users using 1.5 gigs paying R125/gig in order to subsidise the informed user (no doubt victims of the Telkom propoganda machine which states that DSL is meant for browsing and email). People who choose other ISP's (except for mweb) are no doubt more informed and would therefore use their full data allowance.

yeah, I am not sure if the other ISPs only handling informed users though, I know few not well informed users who are using ISPs like axxess etc., so I think the small ISPs do have their share of low usage users.

anyway, I agree with you, but I prefer to look at it from the more benefitial for me point of view :D

Just Capped- Telkom 3gig account
11 gigs June
11 gigs May- uncapped
18 gigs april- uncapped
17 gigs march- uncapped

This sure seems like a good exploitable area.... 'till someone @ telkom sees it, and fixed the problem :)

hmmm, I wonder how many people needs to be fired to fix the problem, and how many users will have to be informed that they were wrongfully charged, and telkom owes them money...... Mind you, then the problem may not be fixed after all

It's not a problem. It was officially introduced a while ago.

Does TelkomInternet allow you to top-up with a credit card?
Edit: err, skip this - I won't give them more money. Will rather "top-up" with Web-Africa. :D

Also can you sign up with a credit card or do you need a debit order on a local bank account?
Edit: Oh wait is there still the option to have the monthly ISP fee put on your Telkom bill?

Depends A LOT on what you are going to use your DSL for.

why would they fix it..? it attracts more customers!! :D

I got capped last night for the 2nd time after topping up my 5GB SAOL.com account. I've put in my 30-days notice and I'm going to try TelkomInternet.

Get a 2GB account, if you're going to use TelkomInternet. No point in paying extra for 3GB, when in all probability, you'll get almost double that.

12.4 Gb and still going!!! Thank You Telkom!

Hehe, i am sure you would.

I was not aware you meant SAIX only. Fair enough. SAIX bandwidth is gonna profit Telkom wherever u get it from so like Postman said, if u want a SAIX account and u dont get it from Telkom , then you are an idiot. :)

Since i can only say now howmuch i did for June here are my stats :
Account No. 1 : 16.613 223 338 Capped on the 10th
Account No. 2 : 12.950 140 451 Capped on the 30th

We got capped the 27th - after only a measly, piddly 4Gigs... :(

Had to purchase another account to allow Salaries to do payments into our accounts for salaries... gah... not nice.
