I noticed that Axxess launched their Naked DSL packages...

My area is covered, but I'm very hesitant about signing up. As a user going from uncapped to capped and swore to never consider going uncapped again, I strongly doubt that the experience would be anything close to capped.

Even though it's stated on their website as, "Just DSL packages are uncapped, unshaped and unthrottled. There are no usage thresholds so you can use as much data as you like, whenever you like. No throttling or shaping will be applied.", just a few lines above the quoted line, it is stated, "All Just DSL packages are subject to an Acceptable Use Policy".

Clever use of words perhaps...? Yeah, naaah. I'll stick with capped.

Hi there

I recently moved back to PureDSL from LTE.

Now I don't hog bandwidth so I cannot comment on the FUP or AUP but the one thing that bugged me was that Openserve took their sweet bloody time to come and do the installation.

My advice:

If you currently have a working DSL connection and don't mind spending R150 extra a month for your Telephone line leave everything as is.

You will see on the forums here that a lot of people who had the "non naked" ADSL like you and now made the move to Naked DSL have really big issues for example Openserve saying their area is not covered for ADSL while they currently have an active and working ADSL line etc.

Hope this helps

I am with Marcelbreewee. My concern is also the experience.

I will wait for feedback from the users and decide at a later stage, but I cannot imagine that you will have the same experience. Doesn't make sense.

The ISP's have a "rank/class" type of system, technically speaking.

  • Capped > BussinessUncapped PremiumUncapped > NakedDSL Uncapped Uncapped
  • Each type of broadband connection having its own predefined rules or T&C's

Roughly illustrated, you can see Uncapped packages usually have the lowest priority on the network. It will never perform better than Capped. I really don't know why people go for uncapped...

Well. Wait.
I do know actually

I remember when I was trying to change from 10Mbit to 20Mbit (which WAS available), when I phoned Telkom they told me that the fastest that was supported in my area is 4Mbit. I WAS ALREADY ON 10!!

This is exactly what I was warning the guys about. It is as if Openserve has lost line of sight on what their DSLAM are capable of

I wonder for what reason they're not giving any naked capped ADSL bundles? Could it be so that they subscribe the first influx of interested users on the uncapped bundles, and maybe then give the capped options? If so, that would be a dick move.

It's not like they had to test if there would be any interest in the product...? I would've switched immediately if capped options where available.
