Just finished Diablo 2

Hello,

I just dusted off my copy of Diablo 2 & I saw that it says:

Windows: 2000/98/95/NT
Mac: Macintosh

What would I need to run it on my laptop (Windows 7 x64) or would it just run as is?

Thanks

It will run just fine, just make sure to run in XP compatibility mode or you might have issues mapping your mouse buttons. Also, get a glidewrapper, it'll look better and run super fast.

@Oculate
Twilight lets you use either 1.12 or 1.13
both work happily, but I would recommend using 1.13 as mentioned earlier - u get Orange rune lettering - making them ALOT easier to spot in-between a mass of health and mana potions !

Also, 1.13 enables your full gold limit on your stash, so you no longer have to wait until certain levels to unlock greater gold storage.
Lots of tweaks and updates too and makes the game a bit more awesome. (Only a bit though, too much more awesome and our faces would melt)

I run mine on Win 7 x64 professional in Window mode, and still get "This program has been known to have compatibility" errors

I installed it & it works just great. I connected to the Twilight server, downloaded 1.13 & proceeded to jam online a bit. Only issue is the game does not maximize on my laptop screen. I got these 2 thick @ss black lines on either side. What is "window mode"?

I don't know what a glide wrapper is or what it does but I will have a look. Thanks :)

I download 1.13... :) I saw a few guys online last night but they were about 90+ levels ahead of me. :)

I saw that. I checked my stash yesterday & it was sitting at 2 500 000 or 25 000 000, I can't remember.

:)

to enable windowed mode your shortcut needs to look something like this
"C:\Program Files\Diablo II\Diablo II.exe" -w

keep browsing for games - people keep trying out new builds as there will always be some lowbies busy questing .... carefull for pk'ers , as unfortunately there are some unsavoury people who find enjoyment from cheap tactics

Well, I just bought a copy for my gf, she's agreed to LAN with me :) How awesome is that? :D

I'm still really keen to organise a group to play once a week for a couple of hours, maybe a Sunday or something. I think it would just be better than randomly partying with some strangers. So if you guys are up for it, pm me and we'll see what we can arrange!

well - I am on basically everyday - looking for keys and runes and those oh so yummy uniques

so post here when you looking for a game - and i will look out for you

Added your one char to my friend list - so will see when you join

The locals aren't playing for fun, not sure what they are playing for, but all of them just rush through the quests to get to the next act. Totally clueless on what this game is about, sigh.

Just gonna have to wait for D3 I guess.

It all depends on what you are trying to achieve

Most of the people that are actively playing - have more than 3 chars i would guess - I have 8 chars over lvl80 for e.g.
So, roleplaying normal and nightmare looses its appeal very quickly after the third time through

Similar to WoW - most of the really good game content can only be found at the end ... Hell difficulty
So most ppl rush to get there asap - to find items to complete their character builds with, or to search for essences to unlock the skill resests - or to search for keys for the Uber Tristram Quest line
All of which can only be found in hell difficulty

Hardcore mode lends itself a little more to questing due to its fatal nature - and rushing isn't taken for granted as easily - but there are not that many active hardcore players at the moment

Hey everyone

Seems like a grand time to hijack this thread... :D

If you want the easiest character to beat the entire game, through all difficulties... Build a skelliemancer (also known as a fishymancer). I use PlugY (for the awesome runewords and the Uber quests) and ATMA (all items have been personally found by me. I haven't duped anything). Just to let you know how easy this character is; I finished the whole of Act1 on Hell difficulty on /players 8 without getting hit once - no exaggeration. Corpse explosion is, without a shadow of a doubt, the best spell in the entire game. It can clear a room full of nasties in less than seconds - It unfortunately suffers a "penalty" when used on /players 8, but even then, it is STILL the best spell in the game. This character also owns PvP... But you WILL need the "enigma" runeword and have had the time/opportunity to raise your army. It's nearly impossible to get beaten. This is what I do when we LAN and PvP:

1. Farm your skellies
2. Go to the Burning River and raise loads of Gorebelly's. These guys have crushing blow, all 20 of them.
3. Engage your opponent, but maintain a safe distance. If he's melee, use Iron Maiden; If he's a ranged hero/spellcaster, use decrepify.
4. Teleport right on top of him
5. Stand there
6. Watch him die... FAST!
7. This works great if he's a melee hero, because when you teleport, so does your whole army. With Iron Maiden on, there's a 1/36 chance he'll actually hit you, and a 35/36 chance he's hit one of your minions, and die from IM.

The Ubers are possible to solo, but only with a Paladin. This is what you will need:

1. You'll need conviction aura on at all times and it MUST be above level 20, otherwise it is "overridden" by UberMeph's conviction aura, and you'll die... very fast.
2. It is also necessary to have the runeword, "Last Wish" equipped. The chance to cast life tap is absolutely vital.
3. You can only use smite (only need it on level 1 - any higher level is a waste of skill points). The reason smite is used is that it effectively overrides your "chance to hit" and you will always hit
4. You'll need loads of crushing blow - This completely ignores hitpoints and deals a percentage of current life (much like static field). I do believe Last Wish has a chance of crushing blow as well as Gorerider Boots. There's a lot of other items - Just check them out.

Can't wait for D3!!

EDIT: Oh I forgot to mention. My fishymancer is a hardcore character. Albeit in single player, I haven't died once; not even close, considering I never actually get hit.

Let me know what happens when you 'tele' into a pack of Death Lords with Amp,Fana,Stone skin ! (Or Black Souls with conviction)
Unless you have you have a Bo Barb lurking somewhere - I believe you wont last too long ^^ (Especially on 8 players)

And you are pretty rich with that setup for your smiter ;-)
I find that so long as Life tap is on Uber (either from draculs grasp or from life tap stick, or helpful necro ally) i can tank him with fana aura active (Doing Ubers on 8 players is silly ! Dont do it xD )
Seeing that I am poor - I use the black runeword for crushing blow (Thul+Io+Nef) Guilhelms mask, shaftstop armour, just recently got Gore Riders boots, Zaka shield and draculs grasp

But whole heartedly agree that Necro is a nice easy ride through the game (Even without Enigma !)

I wholeheartedly agree with you there... But I never teleport in blind, and attract is awesome crowd control.

And yes... I am rather rich. I've been playing and muling somewhat sporadically, but also consistently since 1.09 just came out. I used a IK barb LOADED with MF and probably did 1000+ Baal and Meph runs. I'd get them to a sliver of their health, and switch to dual ali baba's socketed with the MF rune (can't think of it from the top of my head), for the last hit. It's something like +900% MF.

Enigma is a must though on a skelliemancer... otherwise doorways become the bane of your exitence, especially in areas like HotD and the Arcane Sanctuary.
