I set the yahoo one up. MaD fiddled with the hellkom one, and w1z4rd with the antitrust one.

Oh and, ha ha yes very funny :D

What is the difference?

eg, John Doe sends email to my antitrust addy. I open my gmail and see email from John Doe. I open email and see email was sent to antitrust addy.

What am I missing?

The need for a mail server and username and password corresponding to each of your Yahoo and HeLLkom.co.za and AntiTrust.co.za email accounts, in GMail.
 
some email accounts have the ability to forward incoming mail to a diffrent address.

some email accounts have the ability to fetch mail from anothewr email address.

until this new option was added to gmail, it did not have the latter ability.

my guess is that you are using the first option on your non-gmail accounts rather than the second option on the gmail account.

got it now? the difference is between fetching or forwarding, the end result is the same, all mail in one box

That explains the difference. your confusion is something only you can explain :D :D

Perhaps this will help, it's the difference between pushing something and pulling something towards the same destination, where Mail Forwarding == Pushing, and Mail Fetching == Pulling. In the case of Mail Forwarding, no username and password info is required, however Mail Fetching does require username & password info corresponding to the email account and mail server where the email is to be pulled from...

imho the forwarding to gmail is a far better option as delivery to your gmail will be immediate.
 
Forwarding = you need to go into every account [i.e. logging into yahoo] and change a setting to make it forward to gmail.

Fetching = you go into gmail and tell it to grab the emails from the accounts you set up in gmail [i.e. you tell it to go fetch yahoo mail WITHOUT logging into yahoo].

Basically you manage it all inside gmail, where with forwarding you need to go to each account and change the setting there to disable/enable forwarding..

You mean it logs into yahoo for you and checks for new email.

Pity they decided to only support pop3 - I think imap would have been a neater solution.
 
I use mail forwarding on the other servers to forward to gmail. use to have spam filters on the others too but gmail does it all.. gmail ftw. :/ i wish gmail had delivery and reciept thingy.
 
Damn, I have not got it either - can't wait to get my Telkomsa.net e-mail in gmail - their spam filter is just the best - telkomsa.net only allows 25 block filters and mine are all used up. I can then just get my telkomsa.net mail via the gmail java app on the phone as well instead of using the e-mail function on the mobile. Will definately work for me - when I get it.
 
interesting plus sign idea. I just use the za.net domain with all the aliases i can ever want and when i see a email is spammed and its not a main one.. i just set the dns provider forwarder to send it to something like [email protected] :P
