Kawuleza Connect?

Hey Guys,

The response form Kawuleza:

"My technician has informed me that it can work on our system, but please note, it does not form part of our acceptable usage policy."

ah that's a major fail.

Not really, I can see how they would prefer users using their supplied DNS servers, as that will give the user a better experience, as well as help them diagnose problems easier. If something goes wrong with their DNS servers, they can fix it, if something goes wrong with Unotelly DNS servers there is nothing they can do to assist except inform you to change over to theirs.

That said, if they enable Unotelly DNS servers on their network, and then just saying it is not part of their AUP, there should be no problem as long as you realise you can't blame them when Unotelly DNS stops working. Seems fair to me.

Assuming the "against the AUP" issue is _only_ the fact that you are using different DNS - then it's cool. But if you start getting shaped due to "heavy usage" and they point fingers @ the fact that you're streaming a lot - that would be the major fail. Guess they just need to clarify what exactly is against the AUP about using UnoTelly.

PS: Things like OpenDNS require change of DNS for their content filtering (eg: filter so kids can't watch porn / people cant see risky pages etc.) - strange that this would be against AUP.

I must say I cancelled my account two months ago. They started blocking Unotelly and had too frequent disconnects. Also and this is the horrible part Google started blocking my browser as it claimed it detected malicious code. This ONLY happened with Kawuleza.

Just to report back, I got unotelly to work and has been using netflix on my roku to watch what I want this evening!:D

So I emailed them last Sunday from their website to apply for Uncapped. By Tuesday evening I haven't heard a thing so I send another email to inquire whether their response time is indicative of their general service...Wednesday a very friendly lady phones to apologise that they're very busy and inform me that someone else will phone me the next day to arrange for trial. The next day that person phones and promises to phone me early in the next week to set up a meeting.

Thursday evening and have not heard a thing from Kawuleza. :( Initial request for service was 11 days ago...

Think I'll pass on this one then, imagine their technical support. :erm: Pity, their Uncapped seemed reasonably priced compared to my current WISP - Wireless Online.

EDIT/ Durbanville, Cape Town area

Ask to speak to Natalie, she sorted out my installation asap!

Ok, so I tried them out - day 4 of 5 day trial. I needed to get a router with a wan port to get proper DHCP serving to all my connected devices (my Netgear DGN2200 didn't want to play nicely) - so only started using them properly yesterday.

So far so good, 4Mb uncapped product - getting 400kb/s+ on Speedtest, usenet and torrents.

Anyone else having issues with their connection? I've had a week of up and down speed and the last 2 days no connection at all. No support coming back to me either.

Non stop issues lately. Support does reply, but no real substance. Frankly I don't think they have any idea what the **** is wrong with their network.

When it works it flies, but it is so inconsistent as to be unusable.

Still down after ten days. Crap support.

Kawuleza has made me miss with nostalgia my congested Telkom DSLAM days...

...they are utterly useless.

So Kawuleza has been fairly stable of late. Just received an email that they've sold to Sprintnet. Anyone heard of them before?

Much more expensive...will see how this pans out.

I haven't received such an email yet. Are we staying on our current pricing structures or are they going to update them to Sprintnet's pricing ( Agreed, MUCH more expensive )

Nucleas Networks

Their licences are held by Broadband Wireless, subsidiary of Nucleus Network. Sprintnet is their WISP trading name.

Interesting though:

http://www.itweb.co.za/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=63409

Nucleus Networx falls under holding company Kawuleza, which holds individual electronic communications network services (IECNS) and individual electronic communications services (IECS) licences, which give it the right to construct its own networks and self-provide, says Armstrong.

So did Nucleus Networx(ks) purchase their holding company and made them part in Sprintnet?

I have never worked with Nucleus Networks, neither their subsidiaries so I can't comment on anything... except the abovementioned discrepancy. Sound like a play, which is normally made by Mweb. The above article is in April 2013 and they emailed you now, changing the pricing structures would be... not nice. Like you said, see how it pans out.

According to the notification email, billing will come from Sprintnet from February, will see what happens then.

I've mailed them for some answers. I'm not going to sit around and wait for a surprise bill of an extra R620 pm for the 4mb uncapped I have at the moment.

Wow, 600 bucks extra, that's insane. Please let us know what they say.

Just got a reply that there will be no change in my current package cost and that the package price I signed up with will remain the same.

That's good news, because they have been great got a while now for me.
