Kim Jong Il is dead.

I guess it's never crossed your mind that people of repressive regimes are forced to do things, like mourn a "dear leader" they cared nothing for?

Oh wait, it's the whole "wilful ignorance" thing you've got going, never mind.

Is it not more about brain-washing?

I told you I was Il.

I saw the people wailing out of control for this guy and wondered myself how genuine their feelings were towards the man. Was he really such a good guy or were they told to mourn him OR ELSE?

Its likely that a lot of the grief is genuine. They havnt got a clue about anything in the outside world.

The whole country is like one massive cult.

I've seen a documentary on an American eye specialist and his team that toured N. Korea performing sight restoration surgery, and about a week after the surgery when the dressings were removed and they could see for the first time in however long, the first thing they did was head across the hall and worshiped the portrait of the dear leader handing on the wall, no even giving the doctor and his team a glance.
It was very hard to tell whether they did that out of fear of reprisals, or blind cult following of their dear leader, but either way it was totally f'd up and a disgusting end to a good documentary.

The doctors should have left them blind then it would really be a blind cult following.

I also watched that. Those people are truly brainwashed. I think a small amount do it out of fear but I really believe the majority have been brainwashed beyond any help.

They are, they truly are. Whether ita out of true brainwash or ignorance we may never truly exactly know but the fact is this:

if they don't mourn the Dear Leader its off to the gulags for you and entire bloodline.
