in cases like this myus.com is your friend ...

Not intrested. I use my kindle for reading and e-ink is the perfect solution. I'll give the new kindle a skip.

Am looking to buy a Kindle for the same reasons you use one. I am however hoping that the new Kindle will drive the "Old" Kindle 3G price down ;)

3 New e-ink Kindles and the Kindle Fire.

Kindle (no buttons, wi-fi) $79
Kindle Touch Wi-fi $99
Kindle Touch 3G $149

Seems the above Kindle prices are for special offers. For us that would mean a $40 extra for the non special offer versions.

Kindle Fire Tablet - $199

$199 is a very good price. Was about to buy a shop demo iPad 2 16gb (no 3g) for R3k, but now this complicates matters. Especially since I'm already a part of the Amazon ecosystem and I hate iTunes.

For R3k I'd probably go for the iPad - spec wise it really does outperform the Kindle, and it has a larger screen. But I don't have that option open to me, so I'll go for the cheapy Kindle. :-D

I would tend to agree on the R3k for the iPad2 as you can use the Kindle reader from the iStore. I think the kindle fire is a great price for what it is and was going to get one for my wife but got the cheapest kindle as it suites her use much better. I just got a Asus Transformer as I got a tax rebate and was able to buy up in the android range. It seems to fit better with my expected use. I would reccomend to anyone looking, to gauge their use of any reader/device and then make a purchase.

It's web browsing is faster than other kindle versions. Also it has more free app.

What makes this kindle different from my ipad, except for being smaller, and probably locked to amazon only content?

I mean, what is the angle here?

You are (in the USA) getting a 1 year subscription to the Amazon Prime service with the kindle fire. The Amazon deal seems to want to get you into the Amazon content (similar to Apple and iTunes) with the associated purchase of extra content.

Apparently these are the prices at Incredible Connection:
Wifi + 3G version - R2500
Wifi Only - R1500
