Kindle Fire tablet PC

Based on my Kindle experience, I'd be very quick in line if Amazon were to bring out a tablet.

Techcrunch says that it will go for about $300, with a 7" screen, a TI dual core OMAP chip and Android 2.1.

hmm, wasn't it supposed to be $200? /last time I heard...

Sounds like all the numbers are rumours, so I won't be surprised if they do change quite often. Even at $300 I'd be happy to buy it.

Well the Archos G9 might be a better bet if that is the case.

I'm very excited about this. I hope we can buy it online from SA and that we get access to the Amazon app store. I believe Amazon's Kindle tablet is the tablet breakthrough Android needed.

+1, I would rather look at the Archos g9 if in that price range. (it will run honeycomb 3.2)

For myself the major thing is that I sort of trust Amazon. If you read the reports of their service as far as faulty Kindles are concerned, it seems as though they really provide excellent service. I haven't had any problems with them myself, either. I haven't had any personal experience with Archos, making it more difficult to trust them.

Brand loyalty? Probably. :o

If their service with this is anything as good as the Kindle I'll go for it too.
One thing from the article though .. I know its just marketing blurp, but still a bit disingenious mentioning the Netflix deal when its not available locally.

As far as I heard these streaming services would be US only and tied to an Amazon Prime account in some way. It is rumor city though so we'll have to wait and see.

Not intrested. I use my kindle for reading and e-ink is the perfect solution. I'll give the new kindle a skip.

There's no way we would get access to premium content from any provider in the USA. There are too many distribution agreements in place between big media companies for that kind of content to make its way legally across borders.

Android 2.1?

Much as I love Amazon stuff.. that is a killer for me.. It would be nice if Amazon released a 10" tablet running 3.1.

I am getting one for sure, lets see if its better then than the iPad. I highly doubt it, somehow Apple seems a couple steps ahead. Always.

I won't use it for E-reading, but for web surfing, chatting, Skype... It is a tablet, not an e-reader. The normal kindle range goes ahead as normal - seems like Amazon even kept their normal kindle devs out of this project.

It doesn't really seem as though Amazon intends it to be an iPad killer. Judging by the specs they're looking at the lower end of the market.

Based on my personal experiences with Amazon I am 10x more likely to purchase an Amazon tablet than I am one from Apple.

That said, I think that I will wait to see the 10" version, rumored for early next year.

That will also give Amazon a chance to sort out the inevitable version 1.0 bugs ...

Was just going to ask about the OS they might use. Android would make it super competitive, although a later version would be a huge plus.

If I can read comic books on it I'll buy one :D
