KODI vs PLEX

It really did need that Facelift hey, along with a lot more other features it needed, from what i've read so far, its been changed from 540p to 720 now, with a lot more features as well. Cant wait to check it out tonight.
Don't get your hopes up too much, he just released it to Samsung for approval, people are only starting to see the new version, I just checked and the latest for me is still 1.5

Plex app on my Samsung Smart is awesome, very easy to use, even my 3 year old can navigate... only negative for me is, when my ADSL line goes down so does the plex app..

I use both Plex (as add-on) and Kodi, but only because my Kodi machine is a Raspberry PI which doesn't have any high power ports for my HDDs.

I have to say, Plex is sometimes a bit frustrating in terms of set-up. I think I'm going to buy a proper HTPC soon and get rid of Plex.

How? :/

All you do is navigate to your series and movies folder with Plex through the Web UI and you sorted...

The Plex HTPC app is rubbish in my opinion, not to be confused with the web app version.

The PlexBMC add-on is rubbish. RasPLEX is a better solution if you want to use Plex on a Pi.

Yeah im reading that on the forums, TBH I'd rather wait till he gets that issue with it not reading the correct PMS version, i would really not like to uninstall my PLEX Media server and re install the newer version and have to go through that whole set up process again.

According to the forums also, it's been approved already, its just a matter of the regions rolling it out slowly but surely, but Spain and Canada have already received it, so afaik you can just change your region, delete the current version and search the Samsung store for the new version. Also, mentioned something about a power cycle...

:(

Not so cheap anymore dammit!
Ye. I grabbed it on day 1. Was $30 or something.

You are clearly doing something wrong. It's not Plex's fault.

I have my server setup with 5 drives with Windows storage spaces, 5 Roku's and a bunch of tablets and cellphones. Not a single issue - in years.

And the skin **** people keep going on about. Who cares? You spend most of the time watching content. Not navigating. Don't you?
Plex may not have the worlds greatest GUI, but it's functional. Perfectly. Unwatched and OnDeck gets you to your content - Pronto!

Now you're just trolling. You know exactly what I mean.

There is in no way you cannot call this a hack. When Kodi allows you to do this from within the settings menu without having to install third party applications then we can discuss this again.

Here is the MySQL section on the Kodi wiki.

The section starts with this notice:

http://kodi.wiki/view/MySQL

Are you using a MySQL DB with your setup (as above)? I don't see a reason why you would have to.

A mysql setup with kodi allows a synchronisation of the local cache on devices sharing the mysql db.

For example, I can start watching a movie in the lounge, stop it,, go to the bedroom and resume it there on a different device.

I've had this setup for almost 3 years, it's taken some time to setup (issues like upgrading the mysql installation etc), but to be honest I think the complication is mysql itself, not so much kodi. A non technical user will find it difficult to configure this setup.

Plex does this automatically.

I installed PLEX on my PC after I got a Roku streaming stick, and it's awesome. Just install the server on my PC, choose the folders that has the media in it, and it's done. Installed the app on the ROKU, it automatically finds the Plex Server on the network and you can start watching. It cannot be any easier.

I tried to install KODI as well to watch from my phone as well (don't want to buy the Android app as well after I bought the Roku app, and it's only out of curiosity that I tried it) but I think you need a PLEX account to link KODI and PLEX.

For multiple devices with the least hassle PLEX is definitely amazing.

I know it works, I was making a point about how it's a hack to do it though.
