The front page of the Daily News carries an article by Iqbal Khan, suggesting that Kevin Pietersen is set to join the Dolphins. I think that this would have been the biggest news of today and would surely have featured on SuperSport or SkySports !

Has anyone else read this. Your thoughts ?

It's only for 2 or 3 games...

DURBAN, Sept 8 (Reuters) - England's Kevin Pietersen is set to turn out for South African franchise the Kwa-Zulu Natal (KZN) Dolphins in October in a bid to find his form before the Ashes tour later this year, a KZN official said on Wednesday.

The South African-born batsman, who made his first-class debut for the Durban-based Dolphins during the 1997-98 season before relocating to England, will be available to play in two four-day matches for the franchise from Oct. 7-17.

Pietersen will not be paid for his time with the Dolphins, the KZN cricket official, who did not wish to be identified, told Reuters.

"Kevin will play two SuperSport Series matches for us," the official said. "It is a win-win situation because we are not paying him anything and he gets to prepare for the Ashes."

Durban newspaper the Daily News reported that Pietersen had received clearance from the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) to play in South Africa.

However, Cricket South Africa, which has the final say on international players competing for South African franchises, has not yet signed the deal off.

Pietersen was dropped by England for the Twenty20 internationals and one-dayers against Pakistan because the selectors felt he would benefit from playing as much cricket as possible.

The 30-year-old right-hander, part of the Twenty20 World Cup-winning side this year and voted player of that tournament, was fined an undisclosed sum this week after posting a message on Twitter, which contained an expletive, announcing he had been dropped.

Pietersen has passed fifty for England just once this season and the last of his 16 test centuries was scored against West Indies in March, 2009.

The Ashes series in Australia starts in November.

He should pay the Dolphins to play for them. I wonder if people will go to the game just to boo him?

I don't think the reaction will be the one hoped for by many of you from the Dolphins fans. He will after all be playing for our team and his attitude seems to have been toned down a lot in recent years. I'll give him slack when he plays for England against SA but not when he plays for my team.

I think it is great to get a player like him to share some wisdom with the younger players for a few games.

If all goes per plan, KP will be playing 2 home games for the Dolphins.

7-10 October vs Warriors (Pietermaritzburg (Oval)
14-17 October vs Titans (Kingsmead)

He might get some flack from the media but its a SS game anyway, there's more players than spectators at those games.

I will applaud him IF I was at the grounds... pity they are both home games! And also a pity that one is against my team, the Warriors!

I suppose KP is doing what he must to get his form sorted ahead of the The Ashes series. And while he's here, maybe the Dolphins will get some runs for a change :p

Johannesburg - Cricket South Africa has approved a request from the Dolphins for Kevin Pietersen to play two games for his former team next month.

The South African-born England batsman will play for the Durban-based Dolphins in two four-day games in the domestic SuperSport Series in a bid to regain his form ahead of the Ashes series in Australia.

He will play against the Warriors from October 7-10 and against the Titans from October 14-17.

Pietersen made his first-class debut for the Dolphins, then known as Natal, in 1997 before pursuing a career in England. He qualified to play for England in 2004.

Pietersen was dropped from England's Twenty20 and one-day teams last week and hasn't scored an international century in 18 months.

Ya or he will be an epic failure and his career will go from bad to worse. I love the english, you don't perform they drop you no matter who you are :D. A couple of our players could benefit from that
