Kruger statue has to go

This isn't the beginning. The beginning was that heap of crap called Freedom Park and the refusal to put the names of SADF soldiers on the wall.

A part of me is concerned by this. What happened in Germany and Rwanda all started off with people banging on about a certain group, vilifying them at every opportunity. Take a look at the escalation in white privilege opinion pieces and listen to the stuff that was said regarding the Rhodes statue.

I'm loathe to don a tinfoil hat, but I can't help but feel that there is a very obvious anti-white campaign underway and it is being orchestrated by the ruling government. The ANC has failed and now is playing its trump card with gusto in order to drum up support.

His position as one of the fathers of the Afrikaans people is mainly due to the poetic reinterpretation of history by the previous government.
 
Kruger national park I guess will also be renamed eventually.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not judging whether this is a good thing or not - I'm saying it is inevitable. Like it or not, Zuma is our leader. Kruger was a president from a different culture, possibly a despised culture these days. Same goes for Verwoet, Rhodes and anyone else, no matter their role, from that skin tone and ethnicity.

You will not see a statue of de Klerk being erected in this country. Even if he was a saint (he wasn't). That's the country we live in now.

I don't mind if they build new statues of people. What I do mind is that they tear down the old ones.
 
Not to start down the genocide road, but isn't this how it starts? First a group is disarmed (check), then its history/heritage/culture/religion is slowly removed from society (already started) - then the next step is the group's extinction. With regards to the Nazi/Rwandan example earlier, that's how they managed to turn everyone against the other groups: dehumanizing them. I'm guessing it's easier to exterminate someone when you no longer view them as human.

It'll probably be renamed to the South African National Zoo. Oh wait sorry, that's already in existence. It's called Parliament.

Not necessarily dehumanise, but make a certain group the fall guy, the outlet for all the anger, dissatisfaction and frustration. Attribute everything that is wrong with you/the country to said group. That is how the Nazis started their nonsense.

Yeah, that. Sorry for rambling, too - I'm just trying to rationalise the whole thing. And it's not working! It makes no sense for them to want to do this kind of thing. :(

The history of this country is being destroyed. These things are part of our past and we should keep them to remember where we've come from.

Likewise the language used by the Boers known as De Taal was outlawed by the Smuts regime under Afrikaans and English domination, it was richer and more complex than Afrikaans. Afrikaner Nationalism usurped some Boer history but in fact the Boers developed as a distinct group from the Afrikaners and had a different character. Notably the secret societies of (Afrikaner) Jan Hoffmeyer and Rhodes pushed for a United South Africa in which the white man was to rule supreme, the original Boers did not indulge in this type of aryan supremacy but simply believed that God created people differently and upheld Christian principles in interaction. Today the term Boer has become diluted with concepts of the AWB and the like.
