Kubuntu 8.10 WIFI HELP NEEDED

I really appreciate the help but it seems we have not yet identified the gremlin in my machine...

results of network resources. - seems I can't try froots idea as those entries arent even there... Wifi broken still

2.) When I shutdown or restart Kubuntu goes to a black screen and all I can see is my cursor. It doesnt shutdown or restart if I leave it. If I reset or switch it off and on it then corrupts my windows mbr - I'm then forced to repair windows mbr and reload grub... Any ideas?

8.04 was way more stable for me. I'm almost tempted to give up. Lots of hassle straight off the bat...

CTRL-ALT-F2 will take you into a console
login
at the prompt enter "sudo shutdown -h now"
(without quotes)
the shutdown process should continue.

I get this problem on odd occasions too. As a matter of interest, is win on a separate disk or in a partition on the same disk as linux?

What interface did you install your pppoe on? It looks like you used "ath0"... which is???
If your Wifi lines aren't in there, then it just means you didn't install it onto your wifi interface, so you have to look elsewhere to fix it. Maybe try Bwana's solution and reinstall the drivers for your wifi card? I've never had to do that before but it is worth a try.

Installed on ath0 as I would dial through the wifi. Ath0 is my netgear wg311t nic. Do I need net connectivity to reinstall the drivers. This I don't have unless i unplug my whole rig and drag it in the house ...
