Yeah. Some roads even already have the conduits in the trenches. I just saw 2 guys walking with a contraption that looks a lot like a lawnmower :crylaugh: but I know it's a type of scanner used to inspect below the ground.

Why are they focusing on that side of the main road? What about the rest of Kuils River? Do you know if they have any plans for Sarepta, Highbury, Danarand?

I'm trying to lobby my area (summerville, across the road from Highbury) for interest show. Hopefully we get there soon...

I might just do that also - my wife can design so maybe I'll just ask her.

At the moment I am after all the resident email addresses (or as much as I can get). So once I get those then I can maybe send out a bulk email with pamphlet / pdf design as an attachment.

lets see how it goes...

Or better yet, if you have their email addresses and their cell numbers, offer to capture their interest on Vumatel's portal. It could speed things up.

Here are some pictures detailing the ducting and different types of pipes that Vuma will be putting in the trenches. All of them seem to be for FTTx and future expandability.

I've also made another video update, to compensate for the stormy weather today :D

Had someone come around my place to collect names and contact details for a fiber provider called "fast fiber", never heard of them before. This is in Jakarandas where we already have fiber (openserve), so not sure why they would trench again.. Seems stupid to me as most people won't switch.

Here are some photos of the newest Vuma streetbox on the corner of peperboom park.

Also regarding the different types of ducts (blue, pink, white, black) all of them belong to vuma. Some are for streetbox to streetbox connections, other are home to streetbox and other are main line (streetbox to pop) etc.

Thanks, mate. Looks like things are taking shape nicely. Would Vumatel be putting up concrete bollards (sp?) around the street boxes to protect them from accidental collisions?

I'm not entirely sure, but what I've seen from all the other previous streetboxes I can say most likely not. The streetboxes, aside from being placed a sufficient distance from the street, are usually placed in quiet areas, eg the one above is placed on a street that leads to a cul de sac and cars rarely drive in that direction. Also it is protected by a Telkom box in this case :crylaugh:

I saw some activity in Silver Oaks today. There were a lot of trenches dug. Unfortunately only 1 trench was surrounded by the well known pink barrier net of Vumatel. Be this as it may, I suspect it is them busy in Silver Oaks. I'm hoping so at least.

Yeah. Vuma first makes pilot holes to analyze existing infrastructure and then works with CoCT to get the go-ahead for trenching. Once they're satisfied/ haven't come across anything unexpected, they give vuma permission to move ahead to trenching etc. This usually takes about a week.
