Lamborghini Temerario

Lamborghini could easily make a 1,000bhp+ Temerario STO… and here’s how

Oh, and Lamborghini even mulled downsizing to a V6 hybrid… like McLaren and Ferrari

According to Lamborghini’s tech boss Rouven Mohr… you ain’t seen nothing yet. The Temerario’s 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 – the mad one that revs to 10,000rpm and develops 789bhp (800PS) – isn’t breaking sweat yet.

“We operate our combustion engine at 200PS (197bhp) per litre [in the ‘base' car],” Mohr explains in a matter-of-fact, German engineer-type way. “We can run it at, say, 220PS (217bhp) per litre [in future].”

That means, maths fans, another 80 horsepower. But then you add the hybrid element (currently 148bhp). “Electric is quite easy to increase power: just increase the voltage,” Mohr continues. “A four-digit number is possible for the engine. We can do a big step, it’s clear.”

The idea of the ‘entry-level’ Lamborghini supercar pumping out twice as much power as an original Gallardo is a faintly terrifying one. But hey, that’s progress in the supercar realm. Rouven explains that’s why his team chose a V8 instead of a downsized V6… which was also on the table.

677kW raging bull: Lamborghini’s Temerario unveiled in South Africa - here’s how much it costs

Lamborghini’s local importer ripped the covers off the Italian brand’s all-new Temerario supercar at an event held in Johannesburg this week.

Replacing the Huracán as the marque’s ‘entry-level’ supercar, the Temerario ushers in a new hybrid powertrain and will hit showrooms at an eye-watering price of R7,250,000.

The newcomer swaps its predecessor’s normally aspirated V10 for a brand new 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 motor that pairs with three electric motors to deliver total outputs of 677kW and 730Nm. That's sufficient, Lamborghini says, to thrust it from zero to 100km/h in 2.7 seconds.

Despite being turbocharged, the V8 motor revs up to an impressive 10,000rpm, with peak power produced in the range between 9,000 and 9,750rpm. An electric motor, positioned between the petrol motor and the eight-speed dual-clutch transmission, allows for instantaneous and lag-free acceleration off the mark.

The two axial flow electric motors positioned on the front axle, produce a combined 220kW and enable all-wheel drive when additional traction and power is required.

Ooh look, it’s the Lamborghini Temerario GT3!

Spy shot captures Lambo’s V8 race car going for a little jog

Is it a bird? Is it a plane? Is it a lightly concealed spy shot of a camouflaged Italian racing car? Well, yes, it’s that. This is a lightly concealed spy shot of a camouflaged Italian racing car: welcome to Lamborghini’s upcoming Temerario GT3.

Exciting, no? We do not know much about the Temerario GT3, only that it is a Lamborghini built for GT3, that it’s a V8 racer and not a V10 (obvs), and that its older sibling has left a mighty big shadow.

Its predecessor, the Huracán GT3, won a whopping 96 titles and 187 races between 2015 and 2025, including three successive wins in the GTD class of the Daytona 24hrs, and successive 12hrs of Sebring wins. Overachievers huh. Annoying.

Though, one suspects the Temerario’s GT3 drivers won’t really care. It’ll likely be shorn of the triplet of electric motors that feature in the road car, which means there’ll be a more manageable power figure on hand. The road car develops a stratospheric 907bhp, but GT3 regs will bring this down.
